Right, we've not had a competition here since the forum was first set up so I'm going to have another go at it. I'm going to start running these more often for short stories, poems, novel openings/endings etc. so it's basically a peer-judged writing contest
Today's contest is a poetry contest and the theme is "Night". Entries shouldn't be too long (I'm not going to set a limit because I can't be bothered) and should either be posted here or, if they are in another thread, should be marked in the Subject field "Entry". You have until Friday to enter, then until the following Monday to vote (I'll change these times if anyone has a problem with them).
So far the entries are: Spawn: Night Ceri: If I could reach the stars tonight Aulius: I lived in darkness...
Have fun!

I can't do poetry to save my life, so this is going to be God awful but I thought I might as well try anyway since I like the idea of having a competition. Since its fun to be creative.
Night The sun drops beneath the clouds Darkness rises over head Stars twinkle majestically and bright Even in darkness there is light
Cities sleep under the moon A hush swirls around the towns Lovers huddle together Even in darkness there is peace
Yeah, that’s it from me, I’ll never be able to poetry…at least its short.

As this is peer-judged I'm going to have a go as well...I haven't tried writing poetry for a long time so I don't know how this has turned out, really If I could reach the stars tonightThere’s something written in the stars That I can’t understand Cast as they are for miles and miles Over water, sky and land There’s something in their mystic smile That draws my eyes tonight And banishes my fear and doubt Beneath the silver light If I could reach the stars tonight I’d fly so high above I’d lose myself in the night’s cold hands And feel its gentle love Its kindly smile, its sweet caress So far from wrong and right Carry me away and let me stay In never-ending night There’s something written in your eyes I just can’t comprehend It fills me with an ancient fear Our love is near an end But what could come between us now In this, our perfect land? Nothing but mortality, The grip of death’s cruel hand If I could reach the stars tonight I’d drag you back to earth I’d seize your outstretched hands in mine And pull for all I’m worth Until I saw you at my side Forever once again But it’s too late, you rest in fate In never-ending night There’s something written in the stars I think I understand It reaches down with loving eyes And takes me by the hand And maybe if I let it take me Far beyond this light Then maybe I’ll see you again In never-ending night.

Im not eligable to win and I'm probably not eligiable to back out. Here goes...not sure this will make much sense
I've lived in darkness All I have seen is darkness Where ever I look there is darkness What little good there is It's quickly destroyed.
My bitterness to the world My hatred for people who do wrong to others Both could not be measured
Then you came, A Blinding light through the darkness Your Beauty to me is above all others I long to be with you Darkness does not go away quietly though.
Dark figures push me away Trying to take you for themselves You shun them and you grow cold Hateful because of how they act
Where others failed I hoped to succed I found you on a doorstep crying Your clothes a mess Kicked out once again after thinking he's the one I offer you my hand You do not know if you want to believe my kindness You wonder if I have a secret agenda You take it in vain hope
Months have passed and the world seems brighter The darkness runs from me I come to your door and ring the bell You open it quickly and pull me in Wild passion ensews As the door shuts out the dark

Well it is a role-playing forum, and the role-playing is writing, after all. So you'd expect the people here to be people who enjoy writing

Yeah but writing role plays and stories is diffrent from writing poetry, since I can write books and can't write poetry at all. Although I do agree that they have a link.
