Dathran grabbed Sali and held him back. Lydaron tightened her grip on Mech's throat. "What do you want, Máhanaxar?" "What do you think?" Mech asked sweetly. "The same thing you want." "Dathran," Lydaron said, "get Sali out of here." "But--" Sali didn't have time to protest before Dathran grabbed him and dragged him back over to the fire escape. Mech kicked Lydaron in the stomach, sending her onto her back. The gun clattered across the roof, and Dathran grabbed it before shoving Sali onto the steps. Mech leapt onto Lydaron, both hands at her throat.

"Go on, go on--" Sali finally gave up and let Dathran push him onto the steps. Dathran glanced at where Lydaron and Mech were fighting, but didn't go back to them. He had to get Sali away. He pocketed Lydaron's gun and dropped down the steps to be confronted by Sali. "What," he demanded instantly, "is going on?" "I can't explain, Sali, now isn't the--" "Don't give me that crap," shouted Sali. "Now is the perfect time, if you haven't noticed. Explain." Dathran hesitated, breathing heavily, scared of Sali. "Okay," he said eventually, nervously. "Follow me." He grabbed the railings and slid down onto the ground below. Sali swiftly followed, and Dathran led him into the alley between the buildings. "Look," he said quickly. "Lydaron and I have been looking for you for a long time. She knows you're connected to someone, or something. She asked for my help because I'm connected to Jarandle. I suggested--" "Jarandle?" "Robin Jarandle, my employer. I'll explain later. I suggested that we went to Massfect to track you down, and he led us to you. That's why he told you to come here." "But," Sali cut across him, "why are you looking for me?" Dathran cast a glance around, as though fearing being overheard. "Because of what you know."

"This is not a game anymore Lydaron" she continued sweetly, blood dripping from her mouth "we both want to know what Sali knows" "the difference is we want it for good you want it for evil" replied Lydaron. Mech's look changed to one of malice, she hit Lydaron in the face, then pulled it up so their faces were centimetres apart and whispered in a tone few had heard her use before "We are all evil"

Lydaron shoved Mech back, rolled her onto her back and punched her face hard. Moments later they were fighting close and hard. Then Mech had Lydaron down again on the stone, a knife in his hand. "So easy," she said quietly, running the flat of the blade across Lydaron's throat. Lydaron said nothing, breathing heavily, her eyes never leaving Mech's face. "So easy for me to kill you now, Daron," Mech said again, a smile slowly spreading across her face. "Isn't it? All I do is cut your throat--" she pressed the blade against her skin, "--and I win this game of cat and mouse. Hasn't it been going on long enough? What is it, now? Three, four years?" Lydaron took a deep breath. "Five." Mech hit her again. The knife was back at her throat. "Five, is it? Five long years of chasing one another around the town, hunting, hurting and killing only to miss one another over and over again. And look at you now--about to die here and now by my hand, leaving dear Sali alone with that pathetic waste of human life, waiting to be killed. How does it make you feel, Daron?"

"Better than you'll feel if Sali is let loose on you" said Lydaron, she could taste blood. Mech's expression changed back to a smile. "Well that's one feeling i'll never experience." While saying this Mech picks up Lydaron and throws her against a wall. by the time Lydaron turns around Mech has vanished and she whispers. "You may have one this round Mech but it's not over till i say" at this point she falls unconcious.

Breaking free from Dathran, Sali ran back up onto the roof to see the limp body of Lydaron, crumpled in a heap. Running over, Sali heard Dathran clambering up the fire escape. "Lydaron...Lydaron....GET UP" No response. Sali took Lydarons head and rested it upon the coat he had rolled up. Fire magic was Sali's forte but he knew a small thing about healing. Placing a hand on Lydaron's forehead, Sali begins the monotonous chant. Before even finishing the first line, Lydaron starts to cough, spitting out blood. Dathran, now standing on the roof watched over the two, looking out for the perpertraitor that had done this.... sali spoke with an air of anger. "What happend Lydaron? Who was that person?"

As soon as she could speak Lydaron swore loudly, struggling to sit up. Dathran came to kneel beside Sali as she looked around for Mech, who had vanished. She turned back to Sali. "Are you okay...?" "We're fine," Dathran said, but Sali overrode him. "What the hell is going on, Lydaron?" Lydaron held out a hand to Dathran, who helped her to her feet. Sali stared back at her impassively. "What is it that you're trying to get from me? What is it that I know?" Lydaron sighed, wondering where to start. Dathran shrugged when she looked at him. "Let's get out of here," she muttered eventually. "I know a safer place. I'll explain everything on the way, Sali."
I'll expand on this later but I don't have time right now!!!

Dathran jogged along after Sali and Lydaron, scooping Clyde up into his arms as he went. He felt Lydaron's gun against his leg, still in his pocket. He considered raising his voice and returning it to her, when he looked up. "Ah." Lydaron had reached the edge of the building and cleared the gap over to the roof of the next. Sali glanced back at Dathran and leapt after her, landing cleanly. Dathran edged back from the high drop. He lifted Clyde into his hood again and took a few steps back.

Dathran jumped, just about reaching the other end. Lydaron grabbed his hands before he slipped and dragged him onto the roof. On top of this building was the top of a staircase leading inside. Lydaron led them towards it and Sali kicked the door in. Once inside and down the stairs, he turned to Lydaron. They had come out in the top floor of some kind of office block, and were standing in the middle of a study with filing cabinets to their left and a desk to their right. "Well?" Sali demanded as Dathran followed them down the stairs. Lydaron hesitated, sitting down on the desk. Sali took the chair beside her, looking up expectantly. "Listen up, then," Lydaron said. "How far back does your memory go, Sali?" Sali looked up at her for a moment silently. "Four years," he said momentarily. "I remember everything until I was eighteen. Then there's nothing until four years ago." Lydaron didn't look surprised. "I thought so." She leaned forward. "As you probably gathered, I know Massfect. In fact I have known almost all of what you know on the subject my whole life. You and I share ancestors, Sali, if only distantly. The difference is that certain, dangerous information was only passed down your way, and lost before my time. "Now the time has arisen for that information to be put to use. As you can see, enemies are already tracking you down. You are the last surviving person who knows now, Sali." "What?" Sali demanded. "What is it that I know?" "Patience. My companion Dathran mentioned Robin Jarandle to you. Jarandle is the main character in this equasion. It is he that needs the information most, for which reason I brought Dathran in to help me find you." "What information?" Sali pressed. "Jarandle needs to know in order to stop an enemy who could potentially be a threat to our planet," Lydaron continued. "Probably the same enemy that sent Máhanaxar after you. If Mech finds out--if anyone connected to Mech finds out--we're all doomed." "Cut this crap," Sali said loudly, standing up suddenly. "Out with it, Lydaron. What is it that I'm supposed to know?" Lydaron gave a slow smile. Sali sat down again, breathing heavily. Lydaron finally spoke again. "The Maxand."

Sali's eyes widened. He sat up slowly, staring at Lydaron. An unexplained, shared wavelength met in their eyes at the mention of this word. "...And, this is where you loose me," Dathran said simply. Sali sighed, annoyed. Lydaron stood up to explain.

"The Maxand is potentially the greatest weapon and the greatest threat that opposes us," she said. "By us, I mean the people of this world. It is, essentially, a weapon, that was only meant to be activated by one person. When that person died, the secret was entrusted to another, and so it went on, only one person knowing that secret at any one time. Now, that person is Sali. For countless years our enemy has sent spies like Mech to try to discover the secret, but they have always failed." "Much like you have been sent to get it from me," Sali pointed out. "Mech's employer would use the Maxand to destroy or enslave all life on this planet and recreate it to his own will. We," she added firmly, "would have it destroyed. A weapon of such power is too great for any one person. Mech believes that only one person could use it so it would be used against enemies; but the reason only one person knew the secret was so that it could never be used. "But, just as we need that secret to activate it, so we need it to destroy it. The secret includes the weapon's location, and only Sali knows that." "Great," Dathran said slowly. "So...why the blank look on dear Sali's face?" Lydaron didn't answer. She was wondering the same thing with a painful realisation. Sali's eyes remained glazed, staring into space, uncomprehending. "Because he doesn't remember," Lydaron said quietly. Sali looked up. "Since the attack...since I was..." He trailed off, shrugging. "I don't remember anything." "So you're saying...?" Dathran said. "Somewhere in the time period of Sali's memory loss, he lost all knowledge of the Maxand." Lydaron sighed, sitting down on the desk again. "The only way we can find out is to reverse the spell that erased Sali's memory." "Super," Dathran said. "Any idea who cast the spell?" Lydaron smiled grimly. "Mech did." See, I do know where this Role-Play is going

"So what your saying is, that Mech is the only one who can unlock what's in Sali's head" Dathran said sombrely "Yeah, thats exactly what im saying" Lydaron replied in an equally sombre tone. "DAMN IT!" shouted Sali kicking a nearby box in anger. "Now we've got to find that bitch" he continued furiously. "are you sure there's no other way 'Daron?" Dathran asked "it is the only way" she paused briefly "we have to find Mech" "But how..." Sali asked, still angry. "...She appears out of nowhere then disappears without a trace." "I dont know..." Lydaron replied "...but the hellmouth is probably a good place to start". Sali and Dathran share equally worried looks.

"The Hellmouth?" Dathran repeated nervously. "What's that?" "Remind me what this pacifistic human is doing with us," Sali said angrily, shooting a nasty look at Dathran, who shrugged innocently. "He's being informative," Lydaron replied simply. She turned to Dathran to explain: "The Hellmouth..."
No, this isn't a clever way of disguising that I can't remember anything about the Hellmouth...why do you ask? lol

Sali asked as they were nearing the school "...If you are a pacifist why do you carry that gun with you?"

Ahh yes, now I remember. The Hellmouth..demons..everything like that. Jeez, it's been a long time since I watched Buffy Dathran's eyes shot up to Sali, and his hand strayed to his pocket. He took a deep breath; Sali's comment had startled him. "It's Lydaron's," he said. "I was going to return it..." Sali watched him closely as he drew the gun out of his left pocket. "So you're out here unarmed?" Sali said eventually. "Yeah. I mean, I'm usually with Lydaron, so I don't often need to be armed." "Right," said Sali. He was still watching Dathran suspiciously. As Dathran hurried over to return the gun to Lydaron, he thought carefully back to Mech's attack on the roof. He vaguely recalled Dathran picking up the gun, but the memory was clear enough for him to be almost certain that Dathran had stowed the gun in his right pocket, not left. Dathran cast a glance back at Sali, smiled and returned to his conversation with Lydaron. Sali frowned. Something made him suspicious of Dathran.

"Lydaron," Dathran said, "what do you actually intend to do at this Hellmouth?" "See if Mech is there," Lydaron said. "If not, we'll leave." "Yeah but...demons...monsters...we might not get out of here alive!" "I guess..." Lydaron stopped to let Sali catch up. "Okay then, Dathran, you wait outside here. Sali and I will go in and search for Mech." Sali thought to protest but decided against it. Dathran shrugged and went to stand beside the door as Lydaron and Sali entered the school.

"How did you and Dathran meet?" Sali asked as they made their way down the main corridor. "Long friends," Lydaron said. "We met ages ago. Our paths crossed in previous missions." "And...and you trust him fully, do you?" "Of course," Lydaron said. "Why?" "He seems..." How to phraze his distrust of the human? "Distant," he concluded. "Distant?" Lydaron repeated. "Well, he doesn't seem with it. He's on his own, seemingly." "He's one of the few humans involved in the work of people like us," Lydaron said. "It's not surprising." She stopped, turning to him. "What really troubles you, Sali?" "Just...well, the shades. Why does he wear them?" Lydaron shrugged. "He lost his vision once, when he was younger. It was restored but his sight was permanently damaged. He sees the world differently to others, and you can tell by looking into his eyes. He's ashamed of it." "Fair enough. And..." Sali glanced behind him as though worried that Dathran was following. "The gun." "What gun?" "His gun. You said he was a pacifist. Why does he carry a gun?" "I wasn't aware that he did," Lydaron said absently. "Self-protection, I assume. He may be a pacifist but he's not a fool. The attack left him blind and altophobic, so it isn't surprising that he wants to keep himself safe." "Even so..." Sali decided to drop it. There was no point in arguing with Lydaron's blunt trust in Dathran, but he couldn't help remaining suspicious.

Altophobic? The school was a wreck most of the doors had been blasted off of their hinges, lockers had been tipped over, there was rubbish everywhere, there was even a portion of the roof missing from where it had caved in. nevertheless they reached the door which led to the basement, and the hellmouth! as they approached the door they could here shouting from the other side though they couldn't here what was being said. Lydaron opened the door to see Mech standing over the hellmouth with an unseen figure on the other side. Mech was shouting. "I didn't expect to have to be up against the likes of Lydaron and Dathran aswell as the half-caste.." Sali flinched ".. theres no way i can take all three!" Mech continued. then a deep voice said "You can, and you will!" at which point Mech was blasted back from the hellmouth, as the other figure disappeared into it. Her head hit the cieling and she was knocked unconcious. "Good" said Lydaron "that makes our job slightly easier. quick help me get her out of here" they carried Mech outside to where Dathran was standing.

Altophobia: fear of heights. That was sudden...
Lydaron and Sali grabbed Mech and dragged her into the corridor. "Who was that she was talking to?" Sali asked. "Whoever her master is," Lydaron replied. "Whoever set her up to this. We'll get that out of her while interrogating. Wait a moment..." They both stopped as Lydaron took out a length of rope, and they tied Mech up before proceeding to carry her, still unconscious, to the entrance of the school. Midway there they heard gunfire. "Get down!" yelled Lydaron, dropping Mech. They both dropped to the ground. Bullets shot over their heads for a moment, then silence fell. Lydaron lay on her front, her gun aimed at the entrance. Something moved and she cocked the gun; the next thing they knew, Dathran's dog, Clyde, was bounding towards them whimpering and whining in fear. He dived into Sali's arms, shivering in terror. "What the--?" Lydaron leapt up and ran outside. Dathran had gone. "Lydaron!" Lydaron ran back inside to find Sali standing against the wall, Clyde at his feet. Mech was still lying on the ground, but as they watched she began to change. Her face morphed until it was no longer Mech lying there, but a young man. Lydaron noticed the blood soaked through his ragged clothing; he was dead. Lydaron cursed loudly. "It was a spell," she shouted. "Someone cast a spell on this guy to make him look like Mech. He changed back when he was shot at...probably by the real Mech. Now it looks like she's made off with Dathran." She swore again. Sali followed her as she ran back outside. He couldn't help thinking that that may not have been the correct sequence of events.

His ever growing suspision of Dathran was becoming to come to a head. As he ran outside he remebered Clyde, still cowering in a corner. Sali had some compassion, "Go ahead Lydaron" he shouted, "I'll catch up". He turned and ran back into the school. He saw Clyde, a shivering wreck. He picked him up and gripped the dog under his arm made for the exit. Just 20meters from the door he hear an ear piercing scream, Imediatly thinking the worst had happend he sprinted as fast as he could towards the direction Lydaron has headed. As he bolted through the street he saw 2 figures in the distance, masked by the lack of light, again a scream and one of the figures collapsed in a bundle on the ground. As Sali drew nearer he caught a glimps of Lydarons face, contorted with pain. Dropping Clyde he rolled Lydaron over and examined her. A small patch of fabric had been cut away and a deep gash could be seen oozing blood. "What the hell happened?" Clyde came up and huddled around the two...

"Sali--" Lydaron gasped for breath, barely able to speak. "What happened, Lydaron? Who did this to do?" "I didn't see--I thought--I came out here and I saw someone--I thought it might have been Mech, but--it wasn't..." "Who? Who was it, Lydaron?" Lydaron closed her eyes. "It can't have been." "Who? Can't have been who?" Lydaron shook her head. "It wasn't Mech. But--" She broke off. "Tell me, 'Daron. Who was it?" She didn't answer. "Tell me! Was it Dathran? Tell me, Lydaron!"

"Yes" came a voice from behind him, he turned around to see Mech slumped against the wall with multiple blood wounds. "he betrayed all of us, first you two, then me." "he was working for you?" "No he was working for my master, who seems to have chosen his side in this little predicemet." Sali was impressed that even though Mech was horrifically injured she still kept the same tone of voice. "Sali do you want to know what's going on, what everyone's been looking for" "yes" he said after a long pause "okay then" said Mech. she placed both her hand over Sali's eyes. suddenly Sali leapt back in shock. "Holy ****" he said loudly "Now i have no purpose.." Said Mech "..except to destroy Dathran." "and that's something we can help you with" said Lydaron now standing but still nursing her wound "Come on Sali" she said Sali picked up Mech and they walked back to Lydaron's apartment.

That's what you get for offering your character up for infringement, Dathran While making drinks Lydaron looked around to see Sali enter the room. "How's Mech?" she asked carefully. "Unconscious. Or almost. Doesn't look like she's gonna pull through." "She will," Lydaron said, remembering the countless times she had faced Mech in the past. "What about you?" Sali touched Lydaron's shoulder, glancing down at her injured leg. "I'll be fine," Lydaron said distractedly, looking at Sali's hand on her shoulder. She glanced up at him. "Sali...Mech reversed the spell, didn't she?" "Yeah." "Well?" Lydaron turned to face him. "What did she tell you? About the Maxand...you know how to activate it?" Sali took a deep breath. "Yeah." "And how do deactivate it?" "...Yeah." "Well?" Sali sat down slowly. "It's weird, Lydaron. I can't explain it. I can't think how to phraze it...it's like soething I've always known how to do. Something I can't tell how it's done. Like breathing. Somehting I just know how to do, but can't explain. Like...living." Lydaron nodded slowly. "I understand." "When the time comes I'll destroy the Maxand." "I know." Sali nodded slowly. "Maybe you should go to Mech." "Okay." Lydaron left Sali, taking the drinks in to Mech. For five years they had been enemies, and Lydaron felt strange now being with Mech as a friend, now they had a shared objective. Shaking herself, forcing these feelings away, she entered the room. Mech was lying on Lydaron's bed, her eyes closed. She opened them and looked up at Lydaron approached. "'Daron." "Mech." "Glad to see you recovered," Mech said quietly, glancing down at Lydaron's wound. "I'm used to it," Lydaron said, sitting down beside Mech and setting her drink on the side. "And you?" "I've had worse," Mech said weakly. Lydaron couldn't help thinking that this was unlikely. She knew that beneath the covers, Dathran had stabbed Mech twice in the stomach and once in the chest, and cut up her arms and face pretty badly as well. Sali's intermediate healing powers held her stable at the moment, but her condition wasn't hopeful. Lydaron was yet certain that Mech would be okay. "You know you have to kill Dathran," Mech said quietly. "I know." "He's a traitor. He always has been. He isn't working for my master, or Robin Jarandle. Both of them are dead." "How--?" "Jarandle is a fake identity. He never existed. Dathran is working for another. He killed my master before we met on the rooftop with Sali." It was the first time she had used his name. "Who is it that Dathran is working for?" "Who knows? Some other in the equasion." Mech sighed and closed her eyes. "Where are you going to find Dathran?" Lydaron shook her head. "I don't know. He could be anywhere. Do you know who he is working for?" "No." Sali was standing at the door, watching. "Maybe we can track Dathran down." "Maybe," Lydaron said thoughtfully. "Wait--of course!" Sali cried suddenly. "Lydaron, the gun." "What gun?" "The one in your pocket. Take it out. Quick." Lydaron did as she was told, confused. Sali took it. "When Dathran picked up your gun he put it in his left pocket. When he returned this one he took it out of his right. This is his gun, and he has yours. All we have to do is cast a scrying spell and we can trace Lydaron's gun. It'll lead us straight to him." "Won't he have gotten rid of 'Daron's gun by now?" "No," Lydaron said. "Because we have his. He needs some way of protecting himself. Besides, he knows now that I'll come after him. My gun is loaded with silver bullets. It's the only defence he'll have against us." "But he's only human," Sali said. "What a fool. As soon as we find him, he's dead." I can see this role-play being wrapped up pretty soon. We could start a sequel, lol

"Er Sali there's only one problem" said Lydaron "What?" he replied "Neither of us are Scryers, we cant use that spell" she said depressed. then a voice said. "I can" but it wasn't Mech's voice, though it was her unconcious lips that were moving. "who are you?" asked Sali. to which the voice replied "the only other being that knows your here" "Clyde?" said Lydaron "yes" "your a telepathic?" "yes i am, and a very skilled user of the magical arts." "but your a dog.." Sali said confused "..how did.." "There isn't time to go into that now" Clyde replied "But your a Scryer?.." Asked Lydaron "..You can tell us where Dathran is?" "Unfortunately no, but Mech is a Scryer, and i can help restore her health." "Do it" said Sali commandingly "Okay" and Clyde leapt onto Mech's chest. a strange light eminated from Clyde and suddenly Mech awoke with a start. her wounds weren't fully healed but they were smaller and had stopped bleeding. "You?" she said staring at Clyde. the dog nodded and jumped to the floor. "Mech.. Mech!..." Lydaron said hurridely "yes?" she said still slightly suprised at Clyde "...Your a Scryer, you can help us find Dathran" "I can, but i haven't tryed it for years." "Please Mech" Lydaron asked desperately "Okay" she replied closing her hands around the back of 'Daron's head and closing her eyes. There was a long pause maybe 15-20 seconds when suddenly, Mech leant back coughing and gasping for breath. "What is it Mech, where is he" asked Lydaron "The tallest point in this city" she replied still coughing "North Point tower" said Sali. Lydaron nodded. "That'where we've got to go" she said strongly.

With Clyde up on her shoulders Lydaron led the way outside agian, followed by Sali leading an unsteady Mech, onto the street. As they went Lydaron presently spoke. "What are you?" she said uncertaintly. "Me?" Clyde said. "I thought you would have worked it out by now." "What do you mean?" "You, of course, the shape-shifter. You are a werewolf, right?" Lydaron faltered. "Yes. How did you know?" "I've been with Dathran for eight years. I know everything you've ever told him." "I still don't understand." "You mean you don't actually know anything about lycanthropy?" "No." Lydaron flushed, looking straight ahead. Something in Clyde's voice made it seem like being a werewolf was a gift...It was a curse, she thought bitterly, thinking back to the day she'd been bitten, the day she'd been disowned and left alone. She'd never wanted to know anything about werewolves. "Most werewolves are involuntary, like you," Clyde said. "But there are voluntary users of lycanthropy. Ever heard of the Lycon Clan? No? We tried to work out the power behind lycanthropy. It led to different animal transformations...as you see me now." "You're a human?" "Yep. I'd show you my true form but we don't have time." Lydaron glanced up at the dark sky. It had been two hours since Dathran had stabbed Mech and left her for dead. He could have moved from the tower by now. She sped up.

10 minutes later they arrived at North Point Tower, but as they were approaching it Lydaron suddenly stopped. "What is it?" asked Sali "I dont know.." Lydaron replied "..something's not quite right." as she said this Mech suddenly screamed, Sali turned around to see that Mech had a newly formed bullet hole on her left shoulder. "Quick Sali take cover, i'll get Mech" Lydaron shouted, she grabbed Mech just as another bullet shot past her head, Lydaron dragged her around the corner where Sali was standing. "Great, now how do we get in" He said furiously. "F*** THIS!!" shouted Mech as she unclipped the two SMG's from he belt. "MECH, NO!!" screamed Lydaron but it was too late, Mech ran into the road, firing at the tower, and shouting. "GO, GO, I'LL CATCH UP, JUST RUN!!" Lydaron didn't want to leave Mech behind but Sali grabbed grabbed her arm and pulled her away. Neither of them looked back as they ran to the tower entrance.

Hey that can't be good...SMG's? Please to explain?
Lydaron and Sali ran to the entrance; Lydaron kicked the door in and they both ran through, Clyde at their heels. Now they could hear the gunfire from upstairs and could follow the sound echoing through the corridors. Left, right, up, right, left; soon they had completely lost their way but carried on to the sound of gunfire and shouting. Lydaron and Sali burst through the door at the top. They both stumbled into a wide circular chamber right at the top of the tower, with open walls and pillars all around the outside to hold up the stone roof; the sky was black and the clouds swirling above, rain pouring down onto them. The platform was empty save three people standing on the edge, firing down. Two were strangers; one was Dathran. Sali drew his gun and fired six times into the nearest stranger. blood blossomed over his white shirt before he fell from the tower to the ground below. The other two moved; the stranger threw himself behind one of the pillars and Dathran returned fire, running for cover. Sali ran to the edge to look down for Mech. Something inside Lydaron snapped as her old friend shot at her. Taken by sudden rage she leapt forward, ignoring the gun in Dathran's hands, and shoved Dathran back. Dathran staggered to the edge of the platform and grabbed the pillar before he slipped over the edge. Lydaron pressed her gun against his head; with his free hand he did the same.

"STOP!" Everyone on the platform froze. Even the gunfire from below stopped. Lydaron blinked rainwater out of her eyes, trying to look behind without moving. Dathran's eyes were staring past her now. Sali could also see what he was looking at. Standing in the middle of the platform was another person, a stranger. He was small, young, barely fifteen, with tangled rusty hair and bright orange eyes. Around his neck was a tight strip of leather like a collar. His eyes were set upon Dathran. "Lower the gun, Dathran," the boy said eventually. Dathran's look of surprise changed to fury. "Get out of here, Clyde," he spat, holding eye contact with Lydaron. "Now." "Come on, Dathran," Clyde said, stepping slowly towards him. "Think about what you're doing. You don't want to kill Lydaron." "To hell with you!" shouted Dathran. "Get out of here!" "What did he promise you to work for him, Dathran?" Clyde said, still approaching. "Why did you change sides? Why did you betray 'Daron?" "Get out of here!" "I thought you wanted to be true to Daron," he said calmly. "I thought you liked her. Isn't that what you said, Dathran? You said you wanted to stay with her. You love Lydaron." "Get away!" screamed Dathran. He shoved Lydaron back suddenly and fired her gun. Clyde reacted fast, kicking Lydaron's gun from his hands; it flew off the platform and down to the ground below. Dathran grabbed Clyde and pinned him to the ground. Sali noticed that the stranger's attention was averted, and fired again, killing him. Another body fell from the tower. Everything froze again, with Clyde and Dathran on the ground, silent. Desperately, Sali thought of Mech again.
