How is it confusing?
The first one is the moon, the rest are a long exposure as a car drives past. As the car drives past, the light develops a lot more of the CCD cells (pixels) than normal because it is moving fast. It creates a streak because the lights are bright, and moving. As the surroundings are dark, the shutter on the camera remains open for longer, resulting in more of the pixels being coloured red and white from the car lights. The car itself is not under enough light to show through. So, you are left with just the extremes, The car lights (streaked out because the cars are driving fast down Basingbourne Rd.), and the darkness around.

The wobble in the camera really spoils the effect though. Completely removes the illusion of motion in the cars against a still background. If you are going to play with long exposure rates you really need a stand for the camera.

yea, I know, I did not go out lasrt night to take pics of cars and badly lit streets, so I did not have a tripod. I may take some more with a tripod tonight...that and of cars moving towards me. hell, I got some funny looks from people driving past...

Yeah, I did't mean confusing in that way...I mean the image is confusing. In a good way. You know? A mass of...colour and...movement...it's a good set of pictures, don't get me wrong. I was complimenting them.
