He awoke. He did not know how long he had been asleep, but as he slowly got up the sounds of his bones groaning and creaking told him it had been a long time. He got to his feet and surveyed the room. it was a corridor, seeminly miles long, and on both sides identical doors. "where am I?" he asked himself. He tried to think and the realisation came upon him.
he couldn't remember anything. his name, his age nothing. He began to panic, but calmed himself down when he saw a man at the end of the hall. he ran towards him, but before he reached him the man stood up and said in a booming voice: "welcome, my freind, to the Hub! the perfect logic trap. Each one of these doors, as doors often do, will lead to somewhere. But where? no-one knows. your task, Participant John, is to fidn your way out. Good luck". and with that the man walked through one of the doors, through a flash of light and was gone. "WAIT!" John pulled open the door and ran in after him. What he then saw amazed him. with the space between each door, it would make the rooms very small. This room was gigantic. it too had many doors, though ach of these was different. in the centre of the room was a figure on a chair hunched over in what appeared to be pain...
[glow=red,2,300]ok. This is gonna be a dark, serious RPG. each door of these can lead ANYWHERE, but don't go doing anything silly. also, these characters are gonna be fairly alone, so if you put a person ina room they walk into, that person better be important.[/glow]

The man turned round, his arm was bleeding from the wrist down. " i know what it is your thinking, why am i doing this? What purpose does this pose? who am i? what is this place? how did i get here?" his eyes were empty of emotion.
"But so many questions my friend, the Hub brings about so many questions. And it is the nature of man to question things, quite rightly so, but the questions each moment brings poisons your mind. For you will not find answers on your journey only pain death and suffering. I slit my wrist to focus on the pain, for the pain is real, it is happening to me and i think no further then that. Acceptance is a vital tool, not against the hub but the madness it brings. My name is for the purpose of this torture James. Now who are you my friend? Are you the thing from the corner of my eyes and the aces of my nightmares come to finish me off?

"My name is John. or at least, I think it's John. t's what the man called me. he called me Participant John. I don't know. I've lost my memory."
"well isn't that super! another man who has no memory. We should start a club!" he bgean to laugh a forced laugh, one filled with regret and pain.
"are you ok? that bleeding is getting a little heavy"
"OK!? HA! and the idiot of the year award goes to you!"
John immeadiatly disliked the man, but for now, he was his only company. Talking to no-one would be certainly worse than talking to him.
"get up." "excuse me?" "get up."
James reluctantly did so, and was and immeadiatly yelped in pain as John grabbed him by his wounds.
"felt that? that was real. I'm real. This whole place is real. and you and me together are going to find our way out of it" "and what makes you so sure?" "I'm not. but I'm gonna be dammed if I do nothing!"
James opened his mouth to speak, nut another look from John made him close it. John then ripped off his sleeve and bandaged James's arm. John, with James in tow, walked towards a door
"any idea where this'll lead?" "they change whenever a door shuts." "then.. we'll just have to make sure doesn't shut then, won't we?"
John quickly walked over and picked up the chair. He opened a door and propped it.
"this is where it begins" "what begins?" " if all the doors change when they shut no-one will ever find their way out. but if we make all the doors REAL, as in they're stuck.." "then we simply have to keep trying doors till we get the right one!" "exactly" the two confidently marched through the door.

Neither of them could see what lay beyond, it was so dark. James and John stepped slowly through the doorway, nervous and shivering in the cold; John released the door and it swung closed behind him.
At the same moment, their vision was flooded with bright light; both men threw up their hands to shield their eyes. When his vision had adjusted John looked up again: they were standing at the edge of a huge hall that seemed to stretch for miles in each direction. Standing in front of them, not a few yards away, was a girl of maybe six or seven, wearing a pink dress and smiling at them.
James and John stood for a moment taking in their empty surroundings, then John stepped forward towards the girl.
"Who are you? What are you doing here?"
The girl smiled at them. "You are lost," she said simply, then she laughed. John frowned, confused.
"Can you tell us the way out of here?" he asked slowly.
The girl was still laughing. "You are lost," she said again. "You'll always be lost."
"Can you help us?" John repeated, becoming scared and angry.
"Lost," the girl said with a simple smile.
Loosing his temper, John started forward towards her--and he walked straight into something solid and invisible. Startled, he raised a hand and felt polished glass in front of him, only visible through the condensation of his own breath. The girl smiled through the glass.
"You'll always be lost," she giggled, then turned and ran.
James turned around to try the door again, but the door was gone; in front of John they could see the only exit, directly in front of them but some distance away.

"I geuss rooms don't appear until a door closes" John though to himself. Theory 1 down the tubes. it would be like that wouln't it, the only way to make a room would be to close the door.Whoever built this "perfect logic trap" knew what they were doing.
John suddenly felt a horrible lurch and fell to his knees. james did so too.
"what the hell's going on?" said James trying very hard to stand up. John was trying too but it was as if he had suddenly become made of lead, and was impossible to lift himself. A dull tone, louder than any noise John had hever heard came followed by a mechanical, but female voice saying: "gravity altering. Please stand by"
"gravity altering? what does that me-"
the question was awnsered as suddenly the glass wall infront of them became the floor and they lurched towards it. However, seeing as they also now weighed a hideously large amount they crashed through, and landed with quite a resounding thud on the floor below. The dull tone sounded again, and they felt mobility return to them as they went back to their normal weights. They got up and now that the door they had meant to go through was at the top of the new wall, they looked around for another exit. they finally forund a door, half as big as a normal one, opened it and pushed themselves through.
"I wonder if this is where thr girl went" John mused to himself.

The room beyond was stranger still: it seemed to stretch on for miles, the doorway at the other end miniscule, but as John reached out, he realised that it wasn't perspective: the room actually got smaller and smaller, and led to a doorway the size of a television screen.
"This is ridiculous," James said. "If that girl got through here, so can we."
"But she may not have come through here," John said thoughtfully. "I wonder what's on the other side." He reached forward and pushed at the tiny door; it didn't budge.
"So? What do we do?" James asked impatiently.

John began pushing at the door quite hard.
"Well the door behind us leads back to inverto-gravity room, so I hope we can open this one"
He pushed again and felt it creak ever so slightly "Yes!" water began seeping through the tiny crack. "shit!" WOOSH! all of a sudden the door was destroyed as a torrent of water flooded in. The two quickly pulled open the door behind them, but as they had forgotten about earlier the room had now reset and they were now in a room that looked fairly normal, if not for the water now rising above their knees. It even had windows.
"YES! Someone might see us!" they both ran to the window, noisily splashing through the water. When they reached it it looked like a bustling city outside, with hundreds of walkways with people in suitswalking along them. "HEY! HELP US!" "YEAH HELP US!" James chimed in. they both smalled their fists against the windows. Now either these people couldn't see or hear them, or they were ignoring them. it was confirmed when one woman walked up to the mirror "yes she can see us!" but she couldn't. she instead adjusted her make up and hat and carried on. "it must be a one-way window" John sighed dejectedly."Well, what exits do we have?" "we've got the one with water coming out of it, one on the ceiling, and one to the right." "right it is." they tried the right door, but it was locked. "well unless you have any better ideas, we've gotta wait till the water's high enough so we can get through the ceiling"
so they did.
Little did they know that just out of sight, behind the glass, the man in the suit that John saw when he woke up was watching.
Watching. And laughing.

The flash of light swirled all around them, and then there was silence. The door opend to a fridged mountin high above a floating city, all around was endless sky, rivers flow into nothingness. A seven winged bird flew over head it was charcol black and had no feathers. The runins of an entire civiltion lay before them. they couldnt find the door until they looked down and saw a mightly solid oak door, it's marble arch carved into the mountin stone. as they departed into the next world and hopefuly where the little girl was they met... ...the strangest creature either of them had ever seen.
The doorway led into an underground cavern, a deep sparkling pool of perfectly clear water inside, and lit by enormous crystals thrust up through the rocky round and down from the cave roof. Sharp, turquoise and pink gemstones almost two foot long surrounded them, all around, all of them glowing with their own light. In the centre of the pool emerged a circular, flattopped crystal pedastal, and sitting on this was the creature. It was the size of a large lion, and similar in shape, with huge paws and shining golden fur; as it swished its tail it seemed to change to silver, then back to gold in the shimmering light. Large, intelligent black eyes watched them closely; a smile seemed to play across its face. The door swung closed behind James and John and dissolved into the stone, and the lion-creature, slowly and deliberately climbing to its feet, spoke...

"gnorw lla si siht" he said ina very confusing manner "ereh eb ton dluohs uoy" it continued.
"can you understand it?" "nope"
"EREH EB TON DLUOHS UOY!" it roared again.
"I dunno what it's saying but it's pissed as hell" "I can't see any doors!"
the two panicking men backed off from the creature as it slowly made it's way toward them backing them into a corner. "sloof uoy! ytilaer desimarpmoc ksir uoy! EVAEL!"
the two panicking men looked around for weapons, a barrier, anything. But they couldn't find nothing. "woah!" James's foot sank into a hole. A keyhole shaped hole. "shit! the entire floor is a doorway!" they searched around for a key, but alas could find none. then the creature sank his foot into the hole. There was a flash of light, the monster was gone, and so was the floor.
"OH SHIT!"
they plummeted into darkness. When they could see again, they were in a classroom. it was nightime. and strnagely the door out was already opened, but it led to the hall. the door made sense.
"are we out?" John said questioningly.
a far off roar awnsered their question. they were far from any sort of "out" it's just the room was a bit bigger than usual.
[glow=red,2,300] three little things. First off for those who want to know what the creature was saying, read each sentance backwards. this School they are in, it is defined as a room. the only time a room ends is when there is a door. this means a oom can be the size of an entire city, provided every door is already open when they arrive. any door that is closed will lead to a different room. Also a new door rule: A door cannot be closed if there is something halfway through it, like say flowing water. [/glow]

"Damn it!" shouted John, his voice echoing around the hall. "This doesn't make any SENSE! Mirror mazes, altering gravity, talking animals, for Christ's sake! I don't even know who you are!" he shot at James. "And I'm trapped in this Goddamned insane world that makes no sense!"
James drew himself up indignantly. "Don't blame me! I didn't mean for us to come here!"
John groaned, sitting down on the floor and burying his head in his hands, trying to think clearly. Of course it wasn't James' fault, but he was so angry and confused that he had to take it out on someone. He heard James sit down beside him. He took a deep breath and tried to calm down and think of what to do.

"hello?" a old man in a white coat popped his head around the corner. he wore dark rimmed glasses, a white coat and looked about as stereotypical a scientist as you could get. "ah. New arrivals. Come with me if you please?" "who the hell are you?" said James. "all will be revealed. Come along."
Seeing as they had nothing better to do, they followed him around this school, through it's various corridors. it finally opened up into a large room packed with numerous machines, people and a chalkboard packed with equations and scribblings.
"right now are we all here? good. Here is a summary of what we can understand is going on. Our universe here-(he pointed to a circle on the chalkboard) is intersected by millions of other universes. (he pointed to several other circles on the drawing) Now. wherever these two universes intersect, a small tear is made. we are inside one of these tears and these jumps we are making are due to the 3D world attempting to make sense of this multdemensional mess we are in." "I don't care about the physics prof, I jsut want to know how we escape!" "ah yes. I was babbling wasn't I? well to be breif, we have to slowly disconnect these threads. Now as it happens, these two new members have just removed a loop." he gestured towards james and John, who both looked very sheepish as the entire crowd turned to stare at them.
"ahw, it was nothin'" said John his cheeks turning red. "yeah. We didn't even know at the time" said James. "well you certainly did. I saw it with my own eyes the unmistakable flux patterns of a quantum detanglement. You can even see for yourself, this is the largest "room" you have seen so far, yes?" "yeah." "well that's due to a detanglement. every time a detanglement occurs, the 3d world begins to make more sense." "so how do we detangle these realities then?" said a female voice from the crowd. "well that... i am not entirely sure of" said the professor glumly. this caused an uproar in the crowd, with people nervously chattering amoungst themselves. "KEYHOLES!" shouted James. the crows stopped and turned to him with a collective "what-the-hell" expression on their faces. "when we untangle that thread we opened a keyhole, and fell here." "fascinating. tell me about this keyhole."
they all gathered round and James and John began to tell their stories.

By the time they were done telling everything that had happened from their meeting to this moment, all of the people in the room were gathered around, listening raptly and intently, including the professor. When John realised he had nothing more to say, the professor stood up. "Would you tell me more of the people you have met here?" he asked. "I'm not sure if they are others like us, trapped here, or a result of the images here. Who did you mention? The animal, the girl, and the man. What else can you tell me?"
|
|
|
Post by last0man0sitting on Nov 7, 2006 20:13:31 GMT
"Well the animal spoke in a strange language. It sounded human and vaguely familiar. it was really garbled. I couldn't make it out. the girl was small about 6 or 7 and wore a pink dress. She said I was lost and I would always be lost. and lastly the man. he was tall with dark skin, and wore sunshades and a buissness uit and hat. he had a breifcase with him too. he told me my name and the name of this place. "the hub"."
"fascinating. I think they may be our 3d universe trying to unravel concepts which should not normally be exist" "english please?" said the obviously confused James. "oh. Erm. When I said our universe is trying to make sense of the tabgled realities it has been presented with, it is now unsure what concepts are real, unreal, and abstract. for example time in this place me actually be a person rather than an intangible idea, or other such things. Truely a confusing place this "hub" is." "so you're saying these people we met are "ideas"?" "possibly"
for a long time everyone seemed to take that in, trying to make sense of what the professor has said.
"so what do you think those people could be representations of?" "well i believe that one of them at least represents this entanglement itself, and that is most likely the man in the suit. Trying to throw us off by looking orderly, when he is actually a manifestation of a truely chaotic concept. The girl is one of many possible representations of an emotion, in this case, it seems lonliness. the beast... well without hearing what it was saying, I wouldn't be able to hazard a guess."
"ok who else is confused?" said John. James raised his hand. Followed by a few others. then everyone. "ok glad I'm not the only one. I think we should split into teams and try and find more of these keyholes to unlock" "agreed" "ok. So that me James and..." "OH OH PICK ME PICK ME!" a rather energetic looking young teenager ran from inside the crowd and stumbled to her feet in front of them. "I wanna come with you guys! It's boring here" "absolutely not Katherine! it's dangerous out there!" "but dad, it's boring in here!" the tow stared at each other for a long time before the professotr finally gave in. "you know, you're mother was just like you." Katherine gave a little squeal of delight and ran and stood inbetween James and John. "H-Hey! don't I get a say in this?" exclaimed John. "nope" said Katherine smugly. "Guess not" said James, grinning. he was obviously attracted to her, but katherine didn't notice. the rest of the group brancehd into teams and they all set off. "I'm Katherine, by the way, but call me Kat" she said towards John, leaning on him slightly. "will do!" said james trying to get Kat's attention.

I mean i dont even know if i can trust James, and he's not nessarly human because we both saw the girl go through the door" kat and james turned to look at john, he had stoped walking and now was a step behind him, james looked at kat then back at john.

SLAP. James recoiled as poor John got his "proof" "real enough?" "well I guess I deserved that." Said John, rubbing his raw cheek. "well then don't accuse of being real or not." "sorry m'am." "hmph"
Kat walked off ahead, with james going after her. John followed shortly after, still rubbing his cheek. note to self. Don't get on her bad side again. he quickened his pace to catch up with them as they turned to go into a door.

James stood their for a second with kat wedged between john and himself, "Hey fellers, do you mind letting a lady out" she whined. they stumbeld out of the cubicle onto the floor. They had landed in a mall, it was huge! "Wow" kat's jaw hit the ground "Typical" john moned "what, it's been years since i had some new, CLEAN clothes!" she retorted "yeh and besides i'm hungery" james chiped in "this place has a food court but what if we come across vilages and tribes, were going to have to barter" "so your going to what give them lingere and vibrators?" john had looked out of the changing rooms and found themselves in ann summers. "right , yes well.. um this place obviusly has a jewlery store" james was interupted by kat's screams for jewlery "which we can use for barter, and prehaps we can find something to use as a weapon like a baseballbat or something." james led the way out of the store "wait the gun store it's an amirican mall it would have a gunstore" john like the idear of being prepared for more things liek that monstor.

James and John left Kat in the clothes store as they began to search the mall for a gunstore. Many of the shops were locked up but the displays in the windows told them when they'd finally come across it. By this time Kat, newly dressed, had caught up with them. "That place'll be more tightly locked than any of them," she observed. "How do you intend to get in?"
