I decided to take a break from Osrin in Rise of an Empire and try something new. This is a first person view of a character who I will fully introduce later. Its a pretty short chapter I know but its gone 2am, what do you expect?
Ch1.
I ran jumping from roof top to roof top. My blood was still seeping from where I was stabbed. The cries from the city watch yelling where I was, trying to pen me in. It wouldn’t work, I hoped. I skidded to a halt and almost lost my balance. Falling was not something I would like to do right now. The jump was too big for me to jump with my loot. It wasn’t my fault that the Mayor had a lot of things to swag.
I sighed and gave into something I hate doing. I tossed the sack of loot off the roof, a loud crash of metal echoed back to me. I took a run up to the edge and jumped. It’s an odd feeling when one is dangling off the edge of a building and I struggled to climb onto the roof. When I finally managed to I looked back and smiled at my success before reality decided to wake me from my day dream. Two arrows thudded by my feet, a third was caught in my tunic which luckily I had worn my baggy one this night. I continued my running from roof to roof this time being hounded down my arrows. I made a mental note that robbing the Mayors mansion is a bad idea and I made a second mental note, to get out of town as soon as possible.
The torches below gave me enough light to see where I was going, unfortunately the torches were being carried by the people who were after me. I needed a distraction if I were to be able to get away. I had kept my tools and pulled out from a pouch a small dense bag with a fuse sticking out of it. I stopped and crouched then pulled out a sparker. It had seen many jobs and was showing its age. Pressing the switch repeatedly until the flint finally gave a spark setting off the fuse. I then realised I needed somewhere to throw it. I quickly glanced around trying to find somewhere to throw it with the fuse slowly going down. I looked down and saw that I had wound up next to the city garrison barracks. I spotted a few cannons and barrels next to it. Gunpowder is such a useful tool I mused. I threw it before it would be too late. A second after it thudded to the ground it went off, a small but loud bang followed by a much louder and brighter explosion. It was quite pretty too. But it was not the time to be watching my handiwork. I quickly returned to my running while I had the chance to. The fire from the explosion should keep them busy but that wasn’t going to be long with the number of men after me.
For another, I don’t know fifteen minutes I had reached the edge. The edge was a low wall next to the river that went passed the city. Some of my friends down below continued to shoot arrows. I kept trying to dodge them but one struck me. I was winded at the force of it and I lost my balance. I fell. The sudden cold was another shock to my body. Then my eye sight went blurry and then slowly darker and darker. I sighed with what little breath I had left and smiled. It had been a good run while it lasted.
