This roleplay idea was one Cez and I did a while back that worked quite well. Basicly it's set just after the second war of the ring at the begining of the third age of middle earth where the east is just opening up, gradually clearing of dark creatures as the forces of evil receed and are hunted down and destroyed. You can be from any middle earth group (elves, men, dwarves, hobbits etc) except gods please don't use any existing characters but they can be referenced to.
i'll start if anyones interested;
Name: Sarawine Gender: female Age: unknown, between 250 and 300 Race: High Elf From: Allaquonde Weapons: elven longbow and white knives Looks: Bio: Came over from Valinor with her parents on the ship with the Istari Wizards. Her parents came to middle earth to help with the perparations for the elves to return to Valinor. She has lived in the haven of the swans ever since otherwise her history is unknown.

Name: Kestan Blackfire Gender: male Age: 21 Race: Hum,an From: Gondor Weapons: Longsword, hunting dagger Looks: blonde, shoulder-length hair, orangy-brown eyes, pretty tall Bio: Grew up in Gondor and always wanted to be a knight defending Minas Tirith. His parents were poor merchants who died when he was quite young but Kestan had already made up his mind about his future and set off from home to prove to himself that he could change his family.
Enlighten me...is this before or after The Lord of the Rings?

Actually its the end of the third age is when the second war finishes. So its infact the begining of the fourth age.

Sarawine ran through the undergrowth from whatever stalked her, whatever they were it was big! she tore through the thorny thicket tearing flesh and fabric making a break for the cover of the thick forest. Her whole body was aflame with pain and she was so tired she could have colapsed but she kept running regardless making the cover of the trees just as the arrows came

Turning to look over her shoulder, she couldn't see her pursuers through the thick undergrowth, but the snarls she could hear were more than enough to make her keep running. Distracted, she suddenly ran headlong into something solid. With a cry of surprise she and her obstacle tumbled to the ground, and when she reorientated herself she found herself lying in the arms of a blonde young human. "What the--?" the man stared up at her, confused. "Are you all--?" "Get down!" Sarawine screamed, throwing herself and the puzzled man flat as another arrow whipped over their head. The man pushed Sarawine off him and leapt to his feet, sword in hand. Sarawine crawled to the side as the man threw himself at one of her pursuers sword-first. Now she could see they were Goblins, about eight of them, firing their nasty little crossbows and hacking at the human. He was almost twice as tall as the bent, deformed beasts and was having little trouble defending against them. Catching her breath Sarawine forced herself to join the fight, dispatching and beheading three of the Goblins before, together, they had overwhelmed them completely. Sarawine felt like collapsing in exhaustion and instead collapsed into the young man's arms.

The man looked at the young woman slumped in his arms realising at once that she was an elf, and a high elf by the looks of it, and some sort of specialist elf ranger. He was puzzled as throughout his short life the only elves he'd seen were from afar and even then almost entireley wood elves. all the high elves had departed for their homeland months back

He carefully lifted the Elven girl into his arms, glancing around for signs of more attackers. She opened her eyes and blearily looked up at him. "Who are you?" she whispered. "My name's Kestan," he said. "I'll take you back to my camp." The girl seemed to be trying to fight off unconsciousness to speak. The man named Kestan silenced her. "Shhh, don't speak. We'll go back and then we can talk." "Thank you," whispered Sarawine. Kestan looked down again and her eyes were closed. He stood for a moment gazing down at her. He'd never met an Elf before, let alone ran into one in a battle and ended up with one unconscious in his arms. She was strangely beautiful, like he'd always imagined the mysterious nymphs of the forest to be, with a sort of dark beauty in her still face. He quickly turned and headed back to his camp.

"Gomel have you got the rabbits on, we've got company" Kestans compatriots including the dwarf looked up curiously from the fire as he carried the sleeping elf into the camp "I bumped into her in the woods while I was getting the wood for the fire" he lay her down gently on the floor "ran into some trouble with some really big goblins, Tirgon's got the firewood by the way"

"An Elf!" Gomel exclaimed, as he and another man leapt to their feet. Kestan and the man gently laid the Elven maiden on the ground near the fire. Gomel and their other companion Tirgon had been sitting by the fire roasting five young rabbits that Tirgon and Kestan had caught. "Is she injured?" their companion, Rustin, asked. "No," Kestan said, covering the Elf with his cloak, "just unconscious, I think. She was running from about eight or ten Goblins, huge ones." Rustin and Tirgon exchanged glances. "I knew we shouldn't have camped here," Tirgon said. "Ah, shut up," Gomel said. "You're not gonna let her stay here, are you, Kestan?" "Until she wakes up," Kestan said slowly, brushing her hair off her face. "And until she's fit to leave, yes, I am." Gomel glowered and muttered to himself, then returned to the fire. Kestan sat gazing at the pretty Elf's face, wondering who she was and why she'd been running out here all on her own.

Sarawine woke up the next morning oddly refreshed an ready for whatever the day faced her with. She found herself in some form of camp at the edge of a forest. She examined her sorrundings carefully not sure what to make of them before standing up cautiously careful not to make a noise to disturb any of the men laying asleep around the embers of the fire

"Miss?" Sarawine jumped in alarm and spun around, her hand darting to where her dagger should have been. Standing behind her was a tall, blonde-haired human, his hands raised to hold back potential violence from her, his face a mixture of fear and anxiety. Sarawine hesitated, staring at the man. "I know you." The man hesitated, then smiled, slowly lowering his hands. "We met briefly last night. My name is Kestan." Sarawine nodded slowly. "In the forest. The goblins..." "That's right." Kestan slowly approached her. "I've been travelling with a group of others. I am accompanying them as far as Rohan. I ran into you--quite literally--while out hunting." Sarawine nodded, presumably remembering, Kestan stepped closer, then asked, "What's your name?"

"I am Sarawine, daughter of Gilnor, of the haven of the swans" answered the elf "an elvin ranger" she paused "what brings yourself and your companions here if you are travelling to the Riddermark?" she enquired

Kestan shrugged. "I don't even know really where 'here' is. Two of my companions--Gomel and Tirgon--are heading to Isengard. Rustin and I are on our way to Rohan. We are travelling as far as we can together." Sarawine cast an eye over his sleeping companions. "Who are they?" "Various people I have met over the last few months," he explained. "Rustin is my closest companion at the moment. He and I share a goal. Tirgon, I believe, is an army captain carrying information from his city to theirs. Gomel--well, I've never been certain of his purpose, but you never can tell with dwarfs." He laughed.

"Who knows," Kestan said. "We set out days and days ago. It's been so stormy over the last few weeks that there's been no stars to navigate by. All I know is that Rustin thinks Rohan is in this direction, so that's the direction we're going." By this time their conversation had woken up the others. Gomel had put the remains of their fire out and Tirgon and Rustin were packing up their camp. "So will you be joining us?" Kestan asked Sarawine. "It's not far to Rohan, as far as I know." "Can I trust your navigation to believe that?" Sarawine asked. Kestan laughed. "Probably not. But we'll be glad for the company."

"And I'll be glad for any company" said Sarawine "if you'll have me that is?"
"I can't believe you brought the elf along with you laddie!" said Gomel as the group trudged through the fen hours later "she's trouble; I tell you that now! Nothing but trouble these funny wild elves" "she's doing her share of the work" said Kestan "you can't complain about that; it's lightened your load"

Gomel grumbled into his beard. "Mark my words, Blackfire, she'll be trouble. Her kind always are." Kestan shrugged; he was in too good a mood to argue with Gomel. Sarawine herself was talking to Rustin up ahead. Tirgon was wandering behind acting as rearguard. Kestan had the map, which he didn't think was a great idea, and was trying to locate their position on it as they walked. "Any luck, Kestan?" Tirgon called. "None whatsoever," Kestan replied cheerfully. "But I think we're going the right way." "You always say that," Tirgon said blandly. Kestan turned to make a retortion and walked straight into Rustin, who had stopped dead. Gomel and Tirgon stopped as well, peering around to see what had made Rustin and Sarawine stop...

"Goblins," said Sarawine softly " a lot of goblins!" She sniffed the air. "And they're downwind of us!" "really!?" said Tirgon "how can you tell?" "I can't smell them?" quipped Sarawine "But they can smell us!" added Rustin fearfully

"Let's get off the road," Rustin said nervously. Kestan nodded. The five of them hurried to the edge of the path to hide in the undergrowth. Kestan watched carefully through the leaves of the bushes, his hand near his sword. There was tense silence for several minutes; they hardly dared to breathe, let alone speak. Sarawine caught Kestan's arm and pointed; finally the Goblins had arrived, about twelve of them, scampering up the path, grumbling to one another in their ugly tongue, wicked, sharp blades in their hands and black-fletched, poison-tipped arrows strapped to their backs. Kestan glanced at Tirgon, whose bow was already in his hand. Kestan nodded silently, and Tirgon fired. The arrow slammed into the side of one of the Goblins' head; the Goblin shrieked, staggering to the ground. Realising they were under fire, the Goblins wheeled around, shouting; several of them seized their own bows, pointing wildly into the undergrowth. Gomel gave a shout and leapt out onto the path, smashing his axe into another Goblin's back. Tirgon, Rustin, Kestan and Sarawine stumbled out into the open again and the fight began.

The goblins were more disorganised fighters than usual but made up for it with ferociousness. The biggest goblin narrowly missed Kestan with its sword only to be impaled by Sarawine on that selfsame blade "Thanks" said Kestan

Sarawine tossed the goblin aside and turned aside the blade of a second. The next moment she and Kestan were separated again. Kestan knocked countless of them down but they seemed to bounce right back onto their feet again and come back for more. Backing up, Kestan knocked into Tirgon, who whirrled around to face him, his swordjust passing Kestan's face.
"Watch it!" Tirgon shouted; Kestan ducked as a sword blade shot over his head. Gomel leapt forward to parry the goblin behind Kestan; Kestan stood up, smacked another goblin aside, and turned around as the goblin thrust its blade into Tirgon's chest.
"Tir--" Kestan began to shout, when something heavy collided with the side of his head. He was thrown to the ground, his head smashing into the rocks at the roots of the trees, consciousness deserting him.
Sarawine turned to see Tirgon sink to his knees and Kestan lying on the ground, blood on his forehead. She ran to where Gomel was desperately fighting the goblins away from Kestan and Tirgon and together they forced them back and managed to kill the last of them.
Rustin hurried over to Kestan and Tirgon. Tirgon was knelt in his own pooling blood, the hilt of the sword still producing from his chest.
"Is..is Kestan...okay?" he gasped, both hands tightly wrapped around his stomach.
"He's fine," Rustin said nervously, checking Kestan's pulse. "Just unconscious, I think."
"Keep still, Tirgon," Gomel said gruffly, easing the sword from his stomach. Tirgon gave a muffled cry of pain, his eyes closing. Sarawine held his hand in hers, watching nervously. Tirgon shuddered, his breath unsteady and slow.
"Make sure Kestan's okay," he whispered, then fell still.

Sarawine muttered a lament in elvish under her breath, her words carried away by the building wind. "We need to set up camp" she said softly to Gomel, as far away from here as we can manage in the hour, carry Kestan" "We have to burry Tirgon first" protested Rustin

Sarawine was conscious of the danger they were probably still in but she couldn't deny Tirgon's friends that. "Okay then," she said. "But make haste." Rustin sat with Kestan while Sarawine helped Gomel bury Tirgon, the sun slowly slipping down below the trees. They had hoped not to have to travel by night but it would be suicide to make camp here. Rustin said some shaky words to the newly-dug ground beneath which Tirgon lay before the party solemnly set off again, Rustin carrying Kestan, Gomel leading and Sarawine nervously bringing up the rear, conscious of every tiny sound around them.
Finally they arrived at a place Gomel judged to be safe, and they settled down to rest, too tired, upset and afraid to make a fire. Rustin was on first watch, and sat near his companions for about an hour before Kestan finally stirred. He sat up suddenly, eyes wide.
"What--where--what happened? Where's--Rustin, where are we?"
Rustin came to sit beside him. "Are you okay, Kestan?"
Kestan groaned, one hand to his head. "I guess," he mumbled. "Achy. What happened to the Goblins? And where are we?"
"We defeated the Goblins," Rustin said. "We're some distance from where we met them now. We brought you while you were unconscious."
"That's...good..." Kestan said slowly, as though trying to remember the events of last night. He looked over their companions. "At least Miss Sarawine is okay...and Gomel...and...but...Tirgon," he said suddenly. "Where--where's Tirgon?"
But before Rustin could decide how to explain the memory hit him again. "Oh, Gods--" Fear filled his face as he turned back to Rustin. "Is...is he...?"
Rustin sighed, shaking his head sadly. Kestan's eyes filled with tears.

Sarawine was awake; elves sleep very little, but she was still pretending to be asleep. She could hear every word of their remincence of thei former companion, and every sob that either of them gave out, she could see clearly how upset they were and to a degree she could sympathise. He was a good man to pass away, and still young. Allthough she flet she should offer this sympathy to them she thought it best not to intrude

Kestan couldn't stop crying for a while. Although Rustin was his closest friend he had known Tirgon since before he could remember, and he was possibly the sweetest man he'd ever known. He had a wife and three children in Gondor, two brothers in the army and a beautiful sister Kestan himself had once loved. He was loyal to his city, his wife and his friends, and Kestan could hardly believe he was gone. Some hours later Rustin was asleep, but Kestan had woken again, unable to sleep for the clenching pain inside him, knowing that Tirgon was not asleep nearby. He sat a short distance from his companions quietly crying before he realised that he was not the only one awake. "Kestan?" Kestan jumped and leapt to his feet to find Sarawine standing behind him.
