Rondis did what he was told and just to make sure he couldn't get out the room if the humming started he hid the key from himself, before he went to sleep he put ear plus in his ears so it would drown out the humming.
Later in the night Rondis woke with a start, he could hear noises coming from the outside, they weren't the sirens alluring song, but they were there screams and there wife's cries. He rushed to the window to see harpies ripping the men to shreds. Quickly he rushed to Orions room to make sure he was all right and to see if there was anything they could do.

Orion had already heard the screams and he pulled on his clothes and his bow. When he went to pick up his quiver it had mysteriosly been refilled. He leaned out of the window and tried to find on to target.

Upon finding a target he shot his bow, it only skimmed the shoulder, the harpies turned there heads and started boudning towards the building. "Oh, bugger." Sighed Rondis as he looked out the window.

Just then, Laura ran into the room in her pyjamas. "Are you ok?" she shouted "what's going on?" Orion turned around to see her. "Get out!" he shouted angrily. "Go back to your room and stay there!" Before he can think any further , Laura pointed to the window and screamed: a siren with blood dripping from her nails and teeth had jumped onto the window sill and attacked Orion. "You nearly shot me" she snarled and dug her teeth into his shoulder. He tried to fight her off and felt the pain surge through his body. Rondis rushed over to help and Laura backed away towards the door. Then the humming started again and Rondis quickly pushed his fingers into his ears. "Stop it!" he screamed. Orion felt his strength weaken as the song drowned him. The Siren who had been humming appeared at the door. She had long, dark brown, curly hair and green eyes, and was wearing a white silky gown. The siren attacking Orion looked up. "Arissa" she said. "Having fun?" Arissa asked, smiling and continued singing. Laura bit her lip in anger and ran up to Arissa to punch her. Arissa grabbed her arm before she could reach ehr and dug her nails in. Laura screamed in pain, but Arissa began to scream too, and it seemed as if the siren was in more pain than her. She pulled her nails out from Laura's flesh and looked at her hand, eyes widening in fear as the blood in her nails burned her skin. Arissa then looked at Laura as if she was afraid of her "Zues..." Arissa muttered, then fled through the window, her siren friend following her out.

In a few seconds all fell silent. Orion didn't move, his bow still in his hands, frozen in shock, his hands shaking. Laura stared after the Siren and the Harpy, trying to work out what had just happened. Rondis was still crouched on the ground with his eyes tightly shut and his fingers in his ears. Laura ran over to Orion. "Are you okay..?" Orion dropped his bow, pain stabbing through his shoulder. Laura guided him over to the bed to inspect; the harpy's teeth had torn through his jacket and three deep, bloody gashes now stretched from just below his neck to his upper arm. Laura set about binding the wound. "We have to leave," Orion said, as soon as he had regained control of his breathing. "Now. They know where we are and they'll come back." "Where can we go?" Laura asked. "I don't understand what happened. Rondis! RONDIS! Come over here and help me." Rondis leapt up, almost staggering over again, shaking so much. "W-w-what happened?" he stammered, gripping the doorframe to keep himself on his feet. "I c-couldn't see anything..." "The song," Orion said, gritting his teeth in pain. "I couldn't hear it because of the damned Harpy...It must have reached you before you could shut it out." Rondis managed to get over to the bed to help Laura. "What are we going t-to do? We can't s-stay here." Laura thought hard, wondering where they could go.

"W-we'll leave tommrow, we can't help this town." Sighed Rondis staggering to his feet. "And go where?" Asked Laura yet again "Where ever life takes us and I have feeling that its not going to be fun." Replied Orion "Why not?" Inquired Laura "Your blood, didn't you see what it did to the harpies, you've got Gods blood in you girl. Which means you've got the whole world coming after you." "I haven't got Gods blood in me, my father was a drunken monster." "I can't explain how, but I know you do."

[glow=red,2,300]Ahh, so Laura doesn't know that she's the daughter of Zeus...interesting...[/glow]
The three of them spent the rest of the night locked in Orion's room for fear of what may be waiting for them outside. At first light the following morning Orion checked them out of the hotel room while Laura and Rondis were packing up their few posessions. By the time they arrived downstairs in the mess of the foyer that the harpies had left, Orion had flagged down a taxi to take them 'as far away from here as £10 will take us'. As they were driving, Laura noticed that Rondis was looking at her. "God's blood, eh?" he said as she turned to him. Laura shrugged. "I don't know. I don't see how it could be." "Well, I think Orion's right," he said. "I think you're connected to upstairs somehow. You can tell by looking at you. That's why I helped you, because I could see you were special." Laura stared at him, confused. "Really?" Rondis laughed. "No. You look like any ordinary kid to me. But you never know, do you? I had a fellow yesterday mistake me for an American." He laughed again, though Laura couldn't really see the point he was making. "And what's bad about being a God Child anyway?" Rondis continued. Since recovering from the weakness the siren's song had put him in he was making up for it by talking as much as possible. "Maybe it'll bring us good fortune." "Or bad fate," Orion said darkly, gazing out of the window. Rondis shrugged. "It'll be interesting, either way."

In an old, dark, abandoned house on the verge of collapsing, the Sirens stood in a circle. "We must go back and get the girl" one of them said. "But we mustn't" Arissa said. "She's Zues' child. A God's child" "But she has no powers, she can't harm us!" "But her father can" Arissa said firmly. "We are not going back" "Remember our deal" another siren said "he made us into the form of humans so we can hunt on land without getting noticed, and we pay him back by getting the child." "At the risk of our lives" arissa argued. She wouldn't budge. "He said a child, but he didnt say she was Zues' child." "Arissa, you can't break the deal" "It wasn't made clear enough" "Arissa, if you don't come with us, you'll get sent back to the island. Sailors don't go past there anymore" arissa considered it. "Fine" she said. "we better hurry up, because they are running away"

[glow=red,2,300]It's Zeus, matey [/glow] Eventually the taxi driver pulled up and told Orion that this was as far as he could safely take them. Orion paid him and thanked him, and the three disembarked, finding themselves at an abandoned, broken-down train station. "What do we do now?" Laura asked, shivering slightly in the cold. "Get as far away from the city as possible, I guess," Orion said, glancing back at the edge of the city not far away. "I think we should probably try to find out a little more about who you are, Miss Laura." "How do you intend to do that?" Rondis asked bleakly. Orion shrugged. "Where are you from, Laura?" "Manchester," Laura said, confused. "Well that won't help us." Orion thought for a moment. "How do we trace your bloodline when you appear in every way to be just an ordinary kid?"

"Well" Rondis said. "When the siren..." "Arissa" Laura said. "excuse me?" Orion looked at her "They have names....One of them is called Arissa" Laura said. "well," Rondis continued "when arissa attacked you...your blood burned her skin and she was screaming in pain. THen she looked at you and muttered something....I saw her lips move...what did she say?" Then Laura gasped. "Zeus...she said Zeus..." Her voice was hardly above a whisper. "But it can't be....how on earth could that have happened?" "Maybe we need to visit your mum" Orion said. "Was it Manchester?" "I don't want to go back!" Laura shouted "I ranaway from there! I'm never going back again" "We need to know what's going on" Rondis said "And so do you"

"Manchester," Orion said. "I'll see what I can do about transport. Keep a watch out." He headed to the phone box nearby. Laura turned desperately back to Rondis. "It's the only way," Rondis said with a shrug. "But...but..." Laura's eyes were pleading as she tried to find a way around it. "Please, Rondis, you don't understand..." "What's the matter?" "My parents...my father...He..." Rondis sighed. "Look. We have to find out what's going on. You have to trust us, Laura." Laura nodded slowly. "We can get back to Manchester easily. Orion and I can protect you from your father. Once we've--" "Wait!" Laura cried. "How did you know?" "What?" "How did you know about your father?" Rondis smiled. "Same way I knew before. I'm a good guesser." Laura hesitated. "You're not human, are you, Rondis?" "Nope," he said slowly, with a smile. "Elf." Laura wasn't sure whether to expect Rondis' strange knowledge to be 'good guessing' or something more magical. Rondis placed a hand on her shoulder. "Trust us," he said. Laura sighed. Orion came back over to them. "Taxi should be here in an hour," he said. "What do you say, Laura?"...

"Okay, fine." Sighed Laura.
As they got in the taxi she noticed how much she was shivering, she couldn't beleive that she was going back to see her dad, when she run away from home she swore never to return there, now two days later she was going back, even so she knew she was a diffrent person then when she left, its amazing how quickly a person can change in two extra ordinary days.
About three hours later they arrived out side Laura's shabby, rotting and poorly kept house, all the memories flooded back. "It'll be okay, your father can't hurt you." Said Orion comfortingly. As he knocked on the door. Slowly it opened and the Lauras bald headed pig of a father opened it. For a moment he looked shocked to see Laura, then his piggy face reddened and his angry eyes narrowed. "Where the fuck have you been you stupid bitch!" He yelled making a swing at her, Laura jumped back and narrowly avoided it. "I swear as soon as you get inside I'm going to bleed you dry." "I think that is quite enough, Sir." Said Rondis calmly, compared to him and Orion the man looked rather pathetic, fat, small and balding, he wasn'[t the most intimidating of people, well not next to people with actuall power. "May we come in and see Laura's mother?" Asked Rondis politley, he eyed them catiously. "Fine, do what the hell you want." He said openig the door up, his piggy eyes followed them in. The house had a smell of booze and sweat, the celing was cracked and the walls were dented, little insects were crawling around on the carpet. In the living room Laura's mother was huddled in the corner sobbing uncontrably, blood was flowing out of her forhead and her eye was badly bruised. They questioned her about Zeus and bloodlines but got no response, she couldn't stop sobbing. Orion wiped a bit of the blood of her forhead and put it into a plastic bag that he had in his pocket. "Right, we got what we came here for, are you coming, Laura." He asked "Yeah, I mean yes I guess I am." "Oh not you don't your staying here or otherwise my money dries up." Said her father shoving her against the wall. He advanced on her his hands clenched, Orion stood in front of him, his eyes wide with anger. "Move the fuck out of my way." Her father growled, somewhat timidly. "No, I will not let you hurt her." He said "She's my daughter i'll treat however the fuck I like, do you have a problem with that?" "Yes, she is not your daughter and even if she was you would not own her." "Yeah? Well screw you." Orions massive hand grasped Laura's father around the throat and lifted him of the ground. "Let me tell you something, there are many monsters in this world and many heroes. They fight there battles and humanity never notices. Fights between Gods and Demons hardly ever have an affect on this world, since no side ever truly wins, they just cancel each other out. Yet there are more then one kind of monster, some are not powerful, some are weak, scared little boys hiding behind rage. That is what you are. You are what makes this world painful, you are what makes people dread getting up in the morning, you are the reason this world will never become happy or peaceful. You are more monstrous then any of Hades servants or any demon that could ever be created." "I can't... I can't breath." He choked "I am Orion, I am a hunter, you are nothing more then an animal, tell me why I should not hunt you?" He asked tightening his grip. "Orion! Thats enough!" Said Rondis suddenly "Why? he beats women and children, why should he live when he would gladly kill me if the tables were reversed." "Because he is a human, humans have there own laws for dealing with people like him, just because we're powerful doesn't give us a license to decide who is worthy of life." "Very well, I do not wish to risk my friendship with you." Said Orion dropping him to the ground.

Laura's father quickly picked himself up, breathing heavily, fists clenched. "I'll get you...!" he started, but suddenly the tense atmosphere was broken by the sound of sweet singing. "Not them again!!" Orion shouted. Laura's father collapsed to the floor, semi-conscious and groaned. Laura's mother stood up and looked confused. "What's going on?" she asked. "Mum!" Laura rushed over to her mother. "Get down!" The windows shattered and the door flew down, and several Sirens stood there, blocking all ways of escape. "It was hard finding you" Arissa said to Laura. Laura's father stood up and walked towards her, his eyes lost in his own imagination. "Pretty bird..." he mumbled. Arissa gave him a cold look, then in a split second her claws had dug into his chest. He gasped, Laura screamed, her mother fainted, and Arissa laughed. "I can feel your heart" she said, smiling. His eyes were full of fear, he took his last breath of air, then collapsed. Arissa withdrew her hand, blood dripping from her fingers, and looked at Laura. "Get her" she said. The sirens leaped down, and Laura screamed

Rondis and Orion both threw themselves between the Sirens and Laura and her mother. Arissa seized Orion by the shoulders and hurled him aside. Rondis grabbed Laura and dragged her and her mother into the corner. Arissa leapt up again and shot at Laura again; Rondis spun around and smacked Arissa as hard as he could. Arissa spun off course, hitting the wall near her father. Orion staggered to his feet again. "Rondis!" he shouted. "Rondis, help me!" Rondis was crouched in the corner beside Laura, hands over his ears desperately. Orion didn't raise his hands in time before the song reached him again. Laura leapt up and grabbed Orion, holding him back before he could move towards Arissa. She pushed him back over to Rondis and her mother, and before she could move, Arissa grabbed her.

"NO!" Both Rondis and Orion launched themselves forward but it was too late. Arissa dragged Laura off her feet and within seconds had smashed through the front window. The sirens were already following; Orion's bow was in his hands but even his archery was too slow to be of any use. Rondis ran to the window just in time to see Arissa and Laura disappear into the clouds above. "Not good," he said breathlessly, "not good, not good." Orion lowered his bow and turned back to Laura's mother, who was lying on the ground where she had fainted. "What do we do now?" Rondis cried. Orion stowed his bow again. "Let's lock her in here," he said. "Maybe we can still keep her mother safe." "We have to go after them," Rondis said, as together they dragged Laura's mother into the bedroom and left her on the bed. "We can't leave Laura to them." "Where, though? Where would they take her?" "I don't know..." The two of them left the house, bolting the doors so no attackers could get in. They stood out in the yard for a while, staring up at where Arissa had disappeared. "We have to find her," Orion said quietly. "No matter what."

Laura struggled desperatley against the harpies grip, eventually Arissa lost her temper and slashed Laura across the face, blood trickled down from her cheeks, she cried out it pain. "Stop struggling, we don't want to hurt you and to be honest I don't think he wants to hurt you...much." Said Arissa, Laura gave up with struggling and allowed herself to be carried. They were going down a very strange and crowded route. It was a concrete staircase that had seemingly millions of people going down in, they were all diffrent ages, some old, some young. They looked odd, the glimmer of hope in there eyes was gone and there skin no longer sparkled with life. It looked as though everything had been carved outside of them, yet it didn't kill them. The further down they went the colder it got and light seemed to be dissapering. Spiders scuttled around the walls which were now arching into a celing. "Where are we going?" Asked Laura, her teeth were chattering uncontrably. "Shut up, you'll find out soon enough." Snapped Arissa. Eventually the stair case flattened and became stone. The people seemed to dissapear as soon as they touched the stone. Arissa however did not nor did any of the harpies. Standing in the middle of the plat form was a man. Well not really a man, his hair was was dark grey and flowed down to his back, it looked old and batterd. He had light blue eyes, that sparkled even in the darkness. His mouth was twisted into a deformed smile, the lips were cracking and bleeding, the blood was dropping onto his grey robe, which was heavily stained with blood and other nasty thing. The man was place, ghost like even, his skin was streched over his body, it looked as though he hadn't eaten in days. "We have her my lord." Said Arissa bowing down to him. "Excellent, thats made my day." He said striding over to Laura, his blue eyes fixed upon her. "Well aren't you pretty?" He said accetionatley, he put one of his longer spidery finger on her cut and then licked it. "Yes, she certainly is Zeus's daughter. Well done Arissa, but your not of the hook yet, you still owe me big, so wait here until I give you and the rest of your group orders." He commanded The man then tunred to Laura, who had been dropped on the ground. "Well I suppose I should introduce myself, its only polite. I am Hades, ruler of the underworld, which coincidently is what you see before you." He said, his voice was high and proud, Laura looked out over the stone, she gasped in horror. Millions upon millions of people were just standing and staring into space. They were breathing but there was nothing in there eyes, nothing other then despair and pain. "I take it your impressed?" "What do you want with me?" "Well, well. I thought I could use you as a little bartering tool, you see my dearest brother or father or uncle, its been to long and I can't remember how I'm related to him, deicided to cast my out of mount olymips, now he rules the bloody the place. Now don't get me wrong I love living down hear, it rules, contray to what Zues thinks I'm the most powerful God in exsistence. Except I'm nothing compared to all the Gods, so I want a bit more power and I plan on using you to get it." Explained Hades, his voice seemed to change inbetween sentences, at first it was hight and womanly, then it was deep and mannly. "Is this where everyone goes when they die?" Asked Laura looking at the pained faces "Yep, I got cast beneath the Earth and told to make a realm how I saw fit, I wasn't in a particuarly good mood at the time, so I made it like this, you like it?" "Death shouldn't be like this." "WRONG!!! Death should be like this because this is how death is, death is what death is, there's no shoulds or shouldn'ts about it." "But look them they all look so miserable." "I know, its great isn't it?" "So there's no heaven, nothing to look forward after life, just this?" "I really does give more power to the meaning you only live once, doesn't it?" "But you could change this, make it better?" "I could, but I don't want to, this is so much cooler." "Your a monster!" "Ah well, I won't argue, I'm bored of you now, there's no point in me killing you since I need you, but I can lock you up, One of your harpies, take her to her cell." He commanded, one of the harpes walked over and grabbed her. "Now, Arissa, for your next task, find the two companions that were traveling with her, and kill them. We can't have any rescue attempts now, can we?"

At the same time, Orion and Rondis had taken a bus to the edge of town and were now in the park. Orion was sitting on a park bench deep in thought, trying to come up with a plan. Rondis was pacing back and forth in front of him, still agitated by the sound of the sirens. "Knock that off, will you," Orion snapped after a while. "I'm trying to concentrate." Rondis did as he was told, sitting down on the grass in front of him. "Any ideas yet?" "On how to get into the Underworld? Plenty." "Really?" "Oh yes. Of course, most of them involve you dying." "Pass," Rondis said, looking put out. "The only way," Orion said thoughtfully, "to get into the Underworld is through death. But the only way to have the true will to get out again is through life, through a hope and knowledge that something is still up here. So to get in and out again ... would be impossible." He dropped his head into his hands. "What about you? Any brainwaves?" "Not really," Rondis said miserably. "How do you become dead then become alive?" "It's called reanimation," Orion said, "and no one knows." Rondis contemplated for a moment, then his eyes lit up. "Wait. In this human world, isn't there some kind of river you need to cross to get into the Underworld?" Orion hesitated. "There was believed to be, in some cultures." "So couldn't we trick the guards there and get in that way? Pretend to be dead, or something?" Orion laughed. "You can't get to the Underworld by playing dead." "There must be a way of tricking them, though," Rondis said eagerly. "There must be. Maybe we could do a deal with them or something, to get a return ticket instead of a single." "The boat over the River Stix isn't a train," Orion said, but he looked interested. "A deal. Maybe there is something we could do."

Replied Orion "Do you know how to get to the river?" "Yes, but the journey is not easy and its very dangerous." "Well its worth it, now I wonder what we can offer them?"

"How about your souls?" a high pitched voice cried from behind them. They turned around and saw Arissa leading an army of Sirens towards them. "Where's Laura?" Orion demanded. "Exactly where you want to go to" Arissa laughed. "Want to enter the Underworld? I'll be honoured to help you" She stretched her hand out, her claws aiming for Orion's head. He made an attempt to escape, but Arissa's nails dug into his leg. He screamed as the piercing pain spread up his leg. Arissa smiled at his suffering and pushed her hand further so her fingers disappeared into his flesh. Blood was oozing out in large amounts. "Help me..." Orion gasped. Rondis picked up the crossbow and aimed at Arissa, but 3 or 4 harpies leaped onto his back and started digging their teeth into his shoulders.

Rain started to poor down on the battle, Rondis felt his skin getting ripped from his bone, he cried out in pain, suddenly a lighting bolt came dwon from the sky, it set a near by tree on fire, the harpies looked around surprised. This gave Rondis the chance to crawl out of there grasp, another ligtning bolt struck the ground. Arissa screamed in annoyance. "NO! YOUR NOT ALLOWED TO DO THIS IT'S AGAINST THE RULES!" She yelled at the sky, a lightning bolt came down and narrowly missed her, the clap of thunger was deafening. It seemed as though the sky was being ripped apart.

Arissa shrieked, soaring upwards to evade a fifth lightning bolt. Rondis staggered to his knees, arms thrown up to shield his face, but the expected blow never came; when he lowered his arms again, the sirens were rocketing away again into the sky, disappearing into the blackened clouds. "Orion..." Rondis dragged himself over to where Orion was lying, groaning in pain. Arissa had driven her claws straight through his leg, and three deep pierced wounds now gaped, letting his blood flow onto the already wet ground. Rondis could feel pain in his shoulder but almost his whole left arm was numb, deadening it for the time being. He tore the sleeves of Orion's shirt and bound the material around his leg, somewhat ineffectually. "What the heck happened?" he said, looking nervously back up at the sky. Orion tried to regain control of his breathing. "They...just...just left..." He tensed in pain as Rondis tied the material off. "Why did they...just leave?" "The lightning," Rondis said, shuddering as cold pain began to creep down his arm. His eyes moved to the burning tree behind them, and remembered Arissa's horrible screaming. You're not allowed to do this...it's against the rules. What did that mean? Orion dragged himself to his feet, gasping in pain. "We have t-to get out of the rain," he mumbled. "Out of the c-cold." "Yeah." Rondis shook his head, shaking rain from his hair. "C'mon." Together they headed back up the park lane towards the hotel in the distance. It probably wouldn't provide much protection for long, but the rain was getting heavier, and Rondis' hands and feet were loosing feeling in the cold night air; and anything was better than being outside when they knew what might be tracking them.

The harpies flew back to the Underworld, Hades turned and looked slightly put of seeing them. "I hope this is good news." He yawned looking at the sirens "No, master. Zues got involved, he saved the peoples lives." "Hmm, Zues has finally got of his ass, eh? Well I think its time me and him have a little talk. ZUES! ZUES! Get you ass down here." Screamed Hades, his voice echoed all the way down the underworld. There was a crack of lightning, and a small man was standing in fron of Hades, he had silvery white hair, and light green eyes, he was skinny and looked scared. Hades looked at him distastefully. "Your not Zues." "No, I am..." "I don't care who you are" "Zues told me to tell you that he would not meet any of your demands." Whispered the man, his voice shook as he spoke to Hades. "Riiiiight, I bet he also said he wasn't scared of me. Well I'm not going to use messengers, tell him if he sends another one down here, I will kill them. Now shoo."

The gang of sirens stood in a circle, with Arissa hovering in the middle. "This is what happens..." she began "when no one listens to me. Look what we've done. Look what sort of mess we're in now. We have Zeus on our back." "What shall we do?" one of them asked. "Who made her the leader, eh?" another one sneered. "We listen to our master, We listen to Hades." "Well I believe Hades and I, are thinking of the same thing." Arissa said quietly "We have kidnapped Zeus' child. Knowing Hades, he will definitely not release her. See the problem?" "So what are you saying, Arissa?" "There is only one solution." She looked around to make sure they were all paying attention to her. "I'm afraid to say....we, are entering a war, against the Gods"

It was beyond Rondis' knowledge how they arrived at the hotel and got themselves a room without being questioned or stopped, considering that both of them were breathing heavily, shivering violently and more or less plastered with blood by the time they made it. As soon as they'd helped one another up the stairs, Rondis locked the door and the pair of them collapsed on the freshly-made bed. "This is not good," Rondis said a few minutes later. Orion sat up, wincing in pain. "We can't do anything until we know what Hades wants with Laura," he said. "We need to get more information." "The only ones who will have any information are the Harpies," Rondis said glumly. "Or the sirens. And I'm not talking to them again." "Maybe we can make a deal with the Harpies," Orion said. "A parley. They might be able to tell us something." "And the award for most suicidal rescue plan of all time goes to Orion the Hunter," Rondis said sarcastically, moving to close the curtains. But Orion was warming to the idea. "If we captured one--maybe one of the weaker ones--we could get information." "Orion, listen to yourself! We're talking about Harpies! Remember that one time you nearly had your leg torn off by one of them? I recall it was the same day my shoulder was ripped open. I seem to recall that that day was less than ten minutes ago!" Orion ran his hands through his hair, eyeing the sodden bandages on his leg. "We can't do anything yet," he said eventually. "Not until we're both in better shape, and better rested. I don't think this'll last long." "Speak for yourself," said Rondis, who had by now lost all feeling in his left arm from elbow to hand and whose shoulder was aching painfully. "I wonder how long we can safely stay here without being caught, or seen," Orion said thoughtfully.

"Just us?" Asked of the sirens "Of course not! Hades, has a whole army at his disposal, and he now has Zeus's daughter, and don't forget that most of the Gods don't get on with Zeus anyway." Replied Arissa
Meanwhile Orion and Rondis were plotting how they were going to get past the guards, they were trying to work out what deal they could make.
