"I'd keep your smart remarks behind your teeth, Evergreen," snapped the man. Ambekyer said nothing; Anariel was watching his hands, joined behind his back making rude remarks where he couldn't see. She sniggered, a little too loud. "You keep your mouth shut as well, civilian," snapped the second-in-command. "Hey," Ambekyer suddenly burst out. "Anariel's a soldier!" "I told you to be quiet," said the second-in-command. "I will call whoever I please a civilian." "She's no more a civilian than you or I!" Ambekyer said heatedly. "Well," he added hotly, "maybe not you." The second-in-command's eyes widened, and colour burned in his face. For a moment he wasn't sure what to say. Anariel wasn't laughing any more: the comment from the man had caught her off guard, and she knew that Ambekyer had probably gone too far this time. "I'll see you at sunrise tomorrow for slave duty," he said in a dangerous voice eventually. "Three days. If I ever catch you speaking back to a Commander again you'll be suspended. Dismissed." He walked away. For a moment Ambekyer didn't move, then he slowly turned around. His face split into a smile. "That was absolutely worth it."

Naed hadn't returned several hours later. Word had spread that the only girl in the ranks had been left in charge of the entire army, and many soldiers had been coming to Anariel for help with one thing or another, most simply trying to see if they could catch her out. Anariel managed to deal with most of these with relatively little fuss, but it took up most of the day. The sun began to set, it became incredibly cold, and still Captain Naed had not returned. The following morning Anariel rose at sunrise to avoid the eyes of the soldiers and went to find Ambekyer. She found him at the back of the campsite errecting the last of the tents for the rest soldiers to sleep in when they were training. He waved to her as she approached. "How are you doing?" "Not bad," Ambekyer said. "Putting up twenty-four tents takes it out of you. Have you seen the second-in-command lately?" "No. He's still in bed." "Lucky guy," Ambekyer said. "He set me on putting up fifty more tents then swaggered off to bed again." "I'd be careful if I were you," Anariel said nervously. "You'll be in real trouble if you keep up as you are." "Relax, Anariel. I'll be fine. That guy needs to know his place. How's being in charge working out?"

"You can't blame them for staring," he joked, nudging Anariel. "I'd better get back to work. No sign of Naed back yet?" "Nothing." "Ah well. I expect he's on important business. You keep those soldiers in line." Anariel wandered away, wondering what his 'innocent' comment may have implied.

[glow=red,2,300]We'll leave that for Naed, who probably has a clue what he's talking about, unlike us [/glow] At midday Ambekyer finally finished putting up the tents. The other soldiers were in the middle of their training session of the morning, so Ambekyer decided to take the time to explore while no one was looking for him. He had never been one to follow rules, and now he wanted some time alone and something new to see. Near his new camping pitch was the edge of their camp, where the land sloped steeply up the hill, eventually up into the cliffs. Ambekyer bound away over to the hill and began to scale the cliff. Climbing was his talent and favourite sport. Soon he was at the top of the low cliff. To his left was the ocean, wide and sparkling in the high sun. To his right he could see the entire camp, from the base of his cliff to the enlisting tent at the other side. He could see the soldiers, some practicing archery (Anariel amongst them), others sword training. It was windy at the top of the cliff, and Ambekyer sank to his knees as he looked out over the sea. As his eyes gradually adjusted to the light, he was able to spot something on the horizon, something so small it could have been a bird or creature; but as he gazed at it it gradually grew, and he realised that it was a boat. No, a fleet of boats, small brown sailing boats with great black sails. Ambekyer focused to see the symbol on the sails, but they were too far away. Half nervous, half excited, he clamboured down the cliff to tell Naed. Halfway across the camping pitch he remembered that Naed wasn't there, and that Anariel was in charge. He grinned to himself, wondering what she'd say to this news.

Anariel cursed under her breath. "Why me?" she muttered distractedly, "why me?!" "Want some hePlp?" offered Ambekyer. Anariel hesitated. "Right," she said quietly after a while. "Yes. Ambekyer, see if you can rally the soldiers up on that coast. Get the archers up there and fire if there's any sign of hostility. I'll see if I can contact Naed in any way." While Ambekyer called over the archers she ran to find the second-in-command. Maybe she could send him after Naed and bring him back.

Naed walked into his osgiliath study with a handfull of scrolls and notes ''Perhaps.....maybe...'' said Naed to himself he walked over to the window where he was reading early on, he grabbed a book and noticed something in the distance, it was a black figure that had a very unlikeble motion of walking ''holy $&!*'' whisperd Naed he ran out of his house and began runing to the figure.
as Naed got closer to the figure the sun seamed to fade into the sky iluminating less light then it ever had. Naed got about 5 meters apart from the figure and looked closly at the concealed face behind the black cloak it was wearing. he knew it was looking at him even when not using it's eyes,''Dark'' it said in a voice that seamed to have a thousend people speaking at once ''what?'' Naed replied ''Dark!'' it shouted back '' sorry i don't get you?'' said Naed ''DAAAARRRRKK'' it cried across the fields.
A minute past that seamed like a year as silence filled the world but it was only to be broken by a flash, ''Ok nice knowing you'' said Naed he turned to run back to osgilath but he stopped as a powerfull flash apeared that threw Naed into to the sky.
''DARK'' is a word that can bring fear to thousends

[glow=red,2,300]Oooh suspenseful[/glow]
The second in command stared at Anariel, wondering if he'd heard properly. "Say that again." "Look," Anariel said hotly, "I'm giving you a direct order. Naed left me in charge, and that includes in charge of you." "She's got a point," Ambekyer called over as he passed. The second-in-command opened his mouth to protest, then closed it again. "Just get on your horse and ride over to Osgiliath!" Anariel cried. "Find Naed and bring him back here, if you don't want me in charge for the rest of this battle!" "I'd do it, if I were you," Ambekyer commented. "Quiet, Evergreen," snapped the second-in-command. He gave a deep sigh. "Fine. But mark my words, civilian, if we loose this battle your name will be the one scorned in years to come." Anariel paid no attention. She had already turned away.

[glow=red,2,300]Come on, half-line posts aren't gonna take this role-play anywhere! Please try to post more than that in the future !! [/glow] Ambekyer hurried up and down the fast-forming lines or archers, checking on the weapons and positions of the men. Anariel had said nothing about his charge but he silently placed himself responsible for the archers. Something to be removed from Anariel's shoulders, he thought blearily as he scanned the area for her. Presumably she was busy somewhere or other. He glanced out over the water; the corsairs were closer now, and approaching; he could make out every detail on their embroidery flags and see the scowling faces of the sailors. He shuddered involuntarily, checking that his own bow was safely on his back. He started back up to higher ground where the archers were assembled. A twang and a swish; something small and lightning-fast shot past Ambekyer's face, practically grazing his skin. He automatically dropped to the ground, looking wildly around. Behind him the frontmost archer gave a cry and fell, groaning, to his knees, both hands pressed against his stomach where a black-feathered, poison-tipped arrow produced. The ambush had begun.

and suddenly Anariel was by his side barking orders to the archers in full leader mode. the soldiers were marshalled below them in the lee of the wall ready to defend the shore from the oncomming hordes. for a second Amberkeyer felt almost in awe of her control over the situation then she turned to him clearly terrified and in a total panic "help me Amberkeyer" she pleaded in a whisper "i don't know what to do"

Ambekyer's eyes widened in the sudden bleak sensation that descended on him at the sound of her despairing voice. For a split second he found himself simply staring into her eyes, not seeing the desperation or urgency and merely taking in her face, considering, for the hundreth time, how pretty she was. Then he snapped out of it; he grabbed her hand and dragged her out of the line of the archers. "Don't you give up on me now, Anariel," he said, rather more fiercely than he'd intended. "We need you." "I don't know what to do, Ambekyer," she said, tears building in her eyes. "I don't know what...!" Ambekyer heard a loud, victorious cry and spun around to see the corsairs pull up on the banks, disembarking their crafts. He cursed under his breath. "Ambekyer," cried Anariel, desparing and desperate. "Ambekyer, what are we going to do?" Ambekyer spun back around, gripping her shoulders so suddenly and tightly that she was shocked. "I'll tell you what we're going to do," he said loudly. "We're gonna fight, Anariel! We're gonna fight back these invaders and win! We'll hold them back till Naed gets here, and he'll lead us to victory. Naed's counting on us. We're all counting on us, Anariel." She slowly nodded, brushing the tears away. Ambekyer flashed her a smile and released her, turning around as the corsairs approached.

Ambekyer and Anariel ran back out into the battlefield, both brandishing their swords. Ten seconds later, when Ambekyer turned around, Anariel had vanished from his side, and they had been torn apart by the enemy. The corsairs now swarmed all around them, too many to count, and arrows were falling thickly from above and all around. Ambekyer battered the corsairs out of his way, distracted, looking around for Anariel, suddenly worried about her. The men around him were all still fighting and already some slain lay on the ground.

Before this thought had probably released his mind, pain stabbed at his shoulder from behind; Ambekyer gave a yell of alarm and pain, staggering onto his knees by some unknown force pushing from behind. The image of Anariel hadn't quite shaken from his head but now it was surrounded by blinding pain; gritting his teeth, he reached up subconsciously, and his fingers brushed the feathered tip of an arrow producing from the back of his shoulder. His arm was already hot with blood, and his sword clattered from his hand without him realising it. He let himself fall onto his hands, catching his breath, still thinking over and over, where was Anariel?

"What happened?" Ambekyer yelled, sitting up suddenly. Anariel laid a hand on his shoulder. "Calm down," she said quickly. "Are you okay?" Ambekyer hesitated. He'd intended to say 'yes' but realised that it would have been a lie. "What happened?" he asked again. "The battle--the corsairs--where--what--where am I?" he asked suddenly. "The Houses of Healing," Anariel said. "How do you feel?" "Um," Ambekyer said hesitently. "In pain," he concluded. "But the battle--what happened? Did we win?" Anariel grinned. "Yeah, we won."

"We sent the scouts out to look for the injured and I noticed that you hadn't turned up, so I went out with them...When I found you, you were unconscious and bleeding badly...We thought you were dead at one point." "Hmm," Ambekyer said vaguely, trying to move his injured arm and failing. "Still hurts," he muttered. "What about you? Are you hurt?"
