Start: Naed walked into the tavern in hope of finding recruits in the defence. He had always thought of conscription but he would rather people choose to die in there homes or die on the Battle field. Naed walked over to the Bar and had a brief chat with the Bartender ''Sir do you know anybody he has the strength and courege to fight'' asked Naed as he said this he almost shouted it out so everybody in the tavern could here ''well captian from what I know of you already recruited many people, but tell me we have had peace for 5 years HE was destroyed and so was IT how can an army be made so fast and how did it go unheard?'' Said the Bartender, Naed did nothing except turn and walk to the door only to stop half way threw ''this army isnt made by any evil Man knows'' whisperd Naed into the tavern he walked out into the street and made his way to more local taverns

Name: Ambekyer Evergreen Gender: Male Race: Elf Weapon: Gondorian Sword Bio: when his home in Rivendell was attacked he and others were evacuated to Gondor, but he was left behind when the evacuees returned home. He was after that raised as a human, and not many people know that he is not human.
"Listen Miss," Naed said, "I said this last month and I'll say it now. You can't sign up. You are a woman." "What's the difference?" cried the girl. "I can fight just like any man. Give me a chance!" "Sorry, Miss," Naed said with a theatrical sigh. He turned to leave. "Hold up..." Another voice spoke from the crowd. Naed turned to see a young man step up. "Since when have women not been allowed to enroll?" "Since forever, sir," Naed said. "It is in accordance to our laws. War is not the place of a woman." "I thought your job was to enlist," the man said conversationally. "This person wants to sign up, and you won't let her." "It is in accordance to our--" "What's your name?" the man cut across, addressing the girl. "Anariel." "Anariel. That would be an Elvish name, I understand." He turned back to Naed. "Once upon a time, it was uncustomary for Elves and Men to fight side by side. Now that law has been struck out. Now Elves and Men fight together every day. Maybe it is your purpose to strike out this law." "My friend," Naed said, slightly annoyed, "you are wasting my time. If you don't wish to enroll please step aside." "Ah, but I do wish to enroll," the man said plesently. "I, Ambekyer Evergreen, offer my service to Gondor. But," he added, as Naed raised his parchment, "I insist that you let this girl sign up with me." "Now look here--" "Give her a chance. If she fails and dies, let me be slain as well for my foolishness. How do you know the place of a woman if she is not allowed to leave her front garden?" Naed wasn't sure what to say. He looked from Ambekyer to Anariel and back, lost for words. "Fine," he said eventually. "Mr Evergreen, I will be setting up an enrollment camp tomorrow morning. Come there and sign up. I will be happy to enlist anyone accompanying you, as long as no suspicions arise about that companion." He turned on his heels and strode away. Anariel stared after him before turning to Ambekyer.

"by the grace of the valar, thank you sir" she gushed thankfully. Amberkyer drew his breath "i hope you know what you're letting yourself in for miss." "yes of course Mr...Evergreen, was it. I long to fight; and i think you will see that i can hold my own against any man" despite defending her against Naed Amberkyer looked doubtful "we'll see"

That night Anariel slept badly, too excited and nervous to fall asleep. Thoughts of what lay ahead interrupted her dreams, thoughts of battle, of glory, of the man she had met the previous day. Why had he defended her? What interest did he have in her? She was eternally grateful to him but she didn't really know who he was. Early the next morning Anariel set off from her home to the town, where, true enough, Naed's enlisting camp had been set up overnight. A tent stood at the front with a sign hanging above painted "Enlist Here". Outside on the grass sat a familiar face. "Good Morning, Miss Anariel," Ambekyer called as she approached. "How does this good day find you?" "Fine," Anariel said. "And you?" "Who can say? Nervous, excited, but overall fine. Still up for signing on?"

Inside the tent was a table, behind which sat Naed, now dressed in his Gondor army uniform, and another man in similar attire. The second man addressed Ambekyer. "Come to sign up?" Ambekyer nodded. "Right. Full name." "Ambekyer Evergreen." "Age." "35." such questions followed for a while, and Ambekyer answered promptly. "...Do you, as a citizen of Gondor and a becoming member of the army, swear your alligence to our ranks and swear on pain of death to serve your people until you should be dismissed or your life should be lost?" "I swear," Ambekyer said rhythmically. "Do you swear that the information you have given me is true?" "I swear," Ambekyer repeated; Anariel got the impression that he was enjoying himself. "Right," the man said, signing the parchment. "Sign your name here, Mr Evergreen, and welcome aboard." Ambekyer scrawled his name at the bottom of the parchment and pushed it back across the table to the man. He folded it and added it to a pile. When he looked up, he was surprised to see that they hadn't moved. "Can I help you?" he asked evntually, still looking at Ambekyer. "Sir," Anariel said, stepping forward. "I would also like to enlist." The man merely stared at her for a moment, as though wondering if he'd heard right. "But...but..." He looked at Naed, who nodded silently. The man sighed, rolling his eyes, and produced a fresh piece of parchment. "Name?..." The questioning repeated itself. "...until you should be dismissed or your life should be lost?" "I swear." Anareil signed her name; she noticed that at the top of her form the man had written the word FEMALE with a question mark in small letters. She scowled as she handed back the parchment. "Welcome to the army," the man said to them both, avoiding their eyes. "You may leave..." Outside Anariel confronted Ambekyer. He looked pleased. "That went well. Glad you got in. What is it?" Anariel was frowning at him. "You gave that man false information." "I did?" "Yes, you did," Anariel said. "To enlist, he said, you need to be a full citizen of Gondor. In order to be a citizen of Gondor at least one of your parents has to be human. You need to be at least half human. You're not a human." Ambekyer didn't move for a moment. He gave a slow smile. "How did you know?" "One, the ears. Two, the accent. Three...the name." Ambekyer laughed. "Yes, my name is Elvish. So is yours." "I recognised your surname. I used to know another Evergreen." "You're a sharp girl," Ambekyer said. "Yes, I am an Elf. But for the majority of my life I have lived, worked and served as a man, and I will forever remain one. I helped you get where you are now, so now you help me. I'll keep your secret if you keep mine. Well?"

Ambekyer smiled slowly. "Something I've picked up in my time," he said quietly, "is that a soldier shouldn't get too close to his enemies, but should by the same token keep his distance from his allies. Friendships are hard to patch when war takes its toll. I can't help thinking that together we may break that rule, Anariel." With this confusing comment Ambekyer walked away. "See you at training," he called back, before disappearing over the campsite.
Where are you, Naed?

"Nice shot!" Ambekyer called, laughing. He drew back his own bowstring, fired, and missed. He grinned meekly as he tried again. Missed. Again. This time the arrow hit the target, halfway between the edge and the middle. "Getting better," Anariel said, smiling. "I'm better with a sword," Ambekyer confessed, retrieving his arrows. All around were other training Men of Gondor, a few Ambekyer recognised and a fair amount he'd never seen before. Striding up and down the range was Captain Naed, twirling his sword and commenting on his soldiers' work. With him was the man from the enlisting tent, who's name Ambekyer had yet to learn. Anariel noticed him avoiding her gaze as he passed by. Naed stopped beside her. She fired again, the arrow hitting the target touching the first. "Nice work!" Naed said. "Keep it up." The man scowled and continued to walk away.

"pah, bad shot" Anariel said under her breath. she looked up at Amberkyer "what is that other mans problem" she said sharply "you'd think he'd never seen a woman shoot before" she lined up her bow angling it towards the target "what do you recon, do you think i can split that first arrow this time?" before Amberkyer could reply she had released the bowstring and sent the arrow sailing through the air slicing the other one clean in two "yes" said Amberkyer just avoiding laughing at the other mens reactions "you can." "tell you what, if you can teach me to sword fight i'll teach you how to fire a bow and arrow" said Anariel

"tell you what, if you can teach me to sword fight i'll teach you how to fire a bow and arrow" said Anariel Ambekyer simply smiled. Later that afternoon, when the soldiers were given a break from training, Ambekyer and Anariel were out in the field with their swords. They had recieved weaponry from their Commanders for training, and the blades were dull and blunt. Ambekyer had brought his own from home, which they were taking in turns to use. Now he had taught Anariel to use the weapon they were sparring back and forth across the field. "You're a fast learner," Ambekyer said breathlessly, parrying her blade. "You're a good teacher," Anariel replied, striking again. For another few seconds they duelled until Ambekyer brought her sword down. "Nice work," he said. "Let's take a break..." He sheathed his sword and sat down on the grass, looking up at the sky. Anariel sat down beside him. Presently she spoke. "Where are you really from?" "Rivendell. I don't remember it at all, though. I came here when I was six." "Why?" "I was evacuated. Rivendell was attacked and the women and children were escorted here. This was when there was a stronger alliance between Elves and Men, of course. When the evacuees returned to Rivendell I was left behind. I didn't mind much. My parents were already dead and I hated my foster parents. So I stayed here." You may want to continue this conversation because I don't know anything about Anariel!!

Anariel stared after Naed, working out what he had just said. "I'm...in charge?" she repeated nervously. "Way to go," Ambekyer said, nudging her. "He must think something good of you. That'll show that stuck-up second-in-command." Anariel coughed discreetly, nervously. "Um...that stuck-up second-in-command is behind you." Ambekyer's face drained of all colour. He slowly turned around. In contrast, the man's face was rich in colour, and his hands were shaking in rage. Ambekyer blinked, not sure what to say.
