it was well past nightfall now and as the fire burned in their camp Anariel searched the nearby woods for herbs that might help Duryns recovery, or aid the pain of his passing. Finding what she needed she straightend up and made to return to the tents. Amberkyer stood in her way. Anariel was started "oh, Amberkyer, Mae Govanen [glow=red,2,300](sorry can't remember how to spell it)[/glow] Amberkyer strode over pourposefully towards her and kissed her. Anariel was suprised allthough to tell the truth not agrieved by his kiss, after last night how could she be.

Ambekyer drew back, smiling warmly. Anariel slowly took his hands. "Ambekyer..." Ambekyer took the herbs from her, watching as she fought to find the words she was trying to say. "I...I wanted to thank you. For...you know...helping me all this time. Getting into the army...coming with me..." Ambekyer silenced her with a finger to her lips. "You've thanked me so many times already," he said quietly. "That's not what you wanted to say." Anariel smiled embarrasedly. He was right. "Well what I wanted to say was..." "Something about last night?" Ambekyer suggested. "Well...yes." "Don't worry," Ambekyer said. "Whatever it is, I'm sure I agree." With that he turned his back and headed back to the camp. Anariel hesitated, trying to work this out, before following him.

"ok...but" Anariel tried to explain herself walking after him "Anariel, don't speak" Amberkeyer turned back to her putting a finger on her lips "whatever it is it's ok, I agree" "what if it's somthing bad?" said Anariel "then its not ok and i want to know, but later, when this is all over" he laughed "but i know its nothing bad or you wouldn't have been so bright today"

Naed made his way up a rocky hill looking out over the grassy plains 'What a nice day' he said after having a great breath of the clean air. He walked for about 10 minutes and heard voice's over in the plains ahead of him, there was a woman and a man's voice, could it be he thought could this be Naeds search party?

"Anariel! Ambekyer!" a voice called from ahead. The two of them ran back to where Raptor was calling for them. He pointed forward as they skidded to a halt at his side. "Look there. At the top of the hills. Isn't that Captain Naed?"

Anariel laughed in a mixture of joy and relief at the sight of their captian her elvin eyes seeing much further than the humans "it is" she said brightly "he's alive" she embraced Amberkeyer joyously
"we'll go see if he's alright" voulenteered Raptor "you stay here and mix up the herbs for Duryin before it's too late" he bundled the herbs back into her hands

Anariel released Ambekyer to do as she was told, leaving Ambekyer standing somewhat shocked at seeing Naed and being hugged unexpectedly. He shook himself and quickly ran after Raptor towards their Captaiin.

'hey!, whats up!' shouted Naed walking down the hill. 'Now tell me everything whathappond in the battle in osgiliath?' So they told Naed everything about there journey to find him, and the ambush. 'that is grave news, if that is so then we must get raptor back soon or fate may claim him.' 'But if we move him it might hurt him some more' suggested anrial Well I think if he was to die he would want to die on home turf, and also the longer we stay here the bigger chance we get ambushed'.

Naed turned his eyes to Ambekyer as Raptor and Anariel helped Duryn onto his horse. "You look like you've taken the worst of it, too," he said simply. Ambekyer wasn't sure what he meant until he realised his arm was still bound from the battle back at the camp. "That's nothing," he said, and swiftly related the fight to Naed. "It was nothing Anariel couldn't handle, anyway," he said. "She's led us ever since you left." Nae turned to glance at Anariel. "She seems to have done a good job of it."

[glow=red,2,300]We didn't have much further to go. How about we head home, we've got Duryn to sort out (he'll probably be dead sooner or later) and there's probably a heroic welcome waiting for us at the end (unless one of our characters dies). Then we could always start a new one and ask someone else to join in (even with the same characters).[/glow]

[glow=red,2,300]*Sigh* If I must, lol[/glow]
The group set up camp to wait for sunrise. There was a sort of hush despitethe cheery reunion that should have been going on. Raptor was still sitting with Duryn at the other side of the camp to where Naed, Anariel and Ambekyer were. Naed nodded over to them. "What happened to him?" "We were attacked," Anariel said sadly. "It was a fatal wound. He's done well so far, with Raptor helping him, but..." She sighed, trailing off. "Who attacked you?" Naed asked, concerned. Ambekyer gave a short explanation of what had happened. "We lost two others in the fight, too," he added. "Are these attackers still out there?" Naed asked. "Probably." Naed sighed. Raptor came over to them at this stage. "He's unconscious," he said, sitting down beside Ambekyer. "He was drifting in and out for a while but I've lost him completely now. There's nothing more I can do for him." "We can only stay here for another day at the most," Anariel said. "I'd be surprised if he lives that long," Raptor replied sadly.
[glow=red,2,300]If these attackers are still at large, can they attack us again before we get back? What do you think of Ambekyer dying? Just as a thought[/glow]

the progress of their return back to the garrison at osgilliath was much quicker than when they had set out. it was against the driving rain that their horses galloped. Anariel controlly Duryins horse with him slumped on it

Anariel managed to keep the troop on their feet for the whole day and night but by sunrise the following morning Ambekyer came to her and told her quietly that they needed to stop. And it wasn't just that they were all exhausted, or that Raptor's horse was injured. Anariel tied her and Naed's horses to a nearby tree and came to join the others. Raptor was on his knees on the wet, muddy grass with Duryn lying in his arms, breathing unsteadily, barely aware of his surroundings. Naed quietly told her that he had fallen from his horse. Ambekyer also on his knees and had torn Duryn's jacket away, trying to do something to help. Anariel was startled to see how concerned he looked for the man he had disliked so much before they had set out. She and Naed stood back, watching from a distance. Raptor was holding Duryn tightly and speaking to him, though Anariel couldn't hear what he was saying. Presently Ambekyer sat back, as though giving up, his head hung. Anariel could still see the slow movement of Duryn's chest with his weak breathing. Raptor looked up at Ambekyer and Ambekyer spoke quietly; Raptor looked down again, and, as Anariel watched, Duryn fell still in his arms, and his eyes gradually closed. Anariel felt a sort of numb chill spread over her that had nothing to do with the rain. Out of the corner of her eye she could see Naed's hand on her shoulder but it felt like he was a thousand miles away. Raptor slowly laid Duryn on the ground, his head bowed. For what could have been hours the company sat in silence, sharing the cold, empty sense of the loss of a companion, however distant, however small, however little Duryn had meant to any of them. No one spoke, no one moved, and the rain continued to fall.
Raptor and Naed buried Duryn in the soft ground under the trees they were camping nearby. Within the hour the company was on horseback again and Anariel gave the word for them to leave. Anariel would have stayed to mark Duryn's passing properly had Raptor not shared with her Duryn's last words. "Get back to the city. You are being tracked."

For the next few days they rode on, with the distance between them and home slowly decreasing and their fears rising. So far they found nothing of threat along the way but Duryn's words had left them all paranoid and fearful. Only three of them remained from who had set out to begin with, excluding Naed, and their numbers would decrease still if they were found now, weak, exhausted and outnumbered as they would be.
Finally, what seemed like an age after they had set out, the distant outline of the city appeared on the horizon, steadily growing the further they moved. Ambekyer had counted four days since Duryn's death and finally there seemed only hours before they would be home. Thenks for the warning, Duryn, he thought, but we won't be needing it.
It was at that moment that they were ambushed.

"ATTACK!"
Ambekyer wasn't sure who had shouted before the battle crashed upon them. Within moments the remainder of the group were locked in viscious combat. Naed, Anariel, Raptor and Ambekyer were all that was left now against at least twenty others, all of them fighting to kill.
Raptor stumbled out of the fight and ran as far as he dared in the direction of the city walls, grabbing the war horn he'd taken from Duryn. With all the breath he could manage he sounded the horn three times. Moments later he dropped it as another three of the attackers caught up with him, forcing him back into combat. Ambekyer looked up again but still the sentry had not seen them, nor, it seemed, heard them.
The four of them backed together, completely surrounded, lashing at anyone who got to close, all of them sharing the thoughts: we're done for. Again the leader of the attackers lunged and the fighting kicked off once more.
Then, finally, when they felt that their lives were just about to be cut short, an answerinf horn sounded loud and clear. Each of them looked up for just long enough to glimpse the dust rising at the hooveds of a dosen galloping horses heading their way.
"YES!" Ambekyer cried, driving his sword into the enemy in front of him. Within seconds the cavalry were upon them, fighting back the enemy. "Yes, yes, yes!!" Finally they were just minutes away from home; finally they could defeat the last of this enemy and end the battle, with no further casualties and no further death.
From the other side of the battle, thrown to the ground before her attacker was slain, Anariel was the only one to see the last enemy on his feet sink his dagger blade into Ambekyer's stomach.
"AMBEKYER!"

Ambekyer lost his footing, stumbling backwards into Anariel's arms. She could hear Raptor shouting but the words didn't make sense. He and Naed were destroyingn the last of their attackers, and at the edge of the battle they were completely ignored. Anariel placed a hand over Ambekyer's stomach, blood flowing freely through her fingers. "Ambekyer...no..." Ambekyer blinked absently at the sky, his eyes unfocused, breathing unsteadily. Anariel felt tears building in her eyes. Eventually Ambekyer's eyes set back into hers again. "Anariel..." "Keep still, Ambekyer," she said, her vocieshaking. "You'll be okay..." The lack of certaincy in her voice actually made Ambekyer laugh weakly. "You're a terrible liar, Anariel," he said quietly, coughing. Anariel raised a hand to wipe the blood from his mouth, brushing his hair out of his eyes. "What are you waiting for?" Ambekyer said, fighting to breathe steadily. "The city's just over there. You can be there by nightfall." "Ambekyer..." Anariel didn't know what to say. She couldn't leave him here, she refused, but at the same time she knew there was no saving him. Tears were flooding from her eyes; she pulled Ambekyer close to her, crying. Ambekyer effortfully closed his hand around hers. "Naed left you in charge of the army," he whispered, "and to this day he could not have made a better choice. Don't make us doubt that by giving up now." "I can't leave you," Anariel breathed. "You have to." Despite his unwavering smile there were tears in Ambekyer's eyes, too. He took a deep, shuddered breath, and Anariel felt his hand around hers loosen. "Good luck, Anariel," she heard him say. Anariel lowered her head, her vision clouded with tears. "I love you, Ambekyer." His hand gripped hers once more. "I love you too." Then he relaxed, his head rested in her arms, his body still. Anariel slowly laid him down, then released his hand, letting it fall to the ground.

Naed stood a few feet away, keeping the silence that had come over the battlefield. He stared for about 5 seconds and turned away shacking his head in Disbelief, to face who where left of his soldiers. 'We have all known each other for short time, and yet we all have lost a great part of ourselfs, we not only have lost a fine soldier today we have lost one of the legion's Finest, WE will give the respect they derserve' he turned back anariel 'even in Death he will love you, I have relised that, and i hope you will do the same' Naed said and with those words he sheathed his sword and began the walk back to the city leaving anariel on her knees next to what has been one of the greatest soldiers to have served the king and his people.
